Leaving him was Impossible…

It took everything she had for FBI Special Agent Danica Beckett to walk away from the man she loved. But if she wants to save his life, she has to keep her distance. Now, with a killer on the loose and the stakes higher than ever before, the Department of Covert Ops is forcing  these former lovers into an uneasy alliance…whether they like it or not.

Seeing her again is even worse

The last thing Clayne Buchanan wants is to be shackled to the woman who broke his heart. She gets under his skin in a way no one ever has and makes him want things he has no right to anymore. All he has to do is suffer through this case and he can be free of her for good. But when Clayne finds out why Danica left in the first place, everything he’s tried to bury comes roaring back—and there’s no way this wolf shifter is going to let her get away this time.

Why are Alpha Werewolves Oooh So Sexy?

Instead of me—Paige Tyler the Author—explaining this, I think it would be easier if I have someone with a little firsthand knowledge on the subject—Danica Beckett, FBI agent, occasional DCO operative, and heroine of HER LONE WOLF—do the talking instead. Luckily I was able to catch up with her at Starbucks and ask her what she thought over nonfat lattes.

“Why do I think alpha werewolves are so sexy?” She sipped her latte, then sat back. “Wow, that’s a question loaded with dangerous potential. If any of this gets back to Clayne, his head will get so big it might not fit through the door anymore. You have to promise your readers will keep this completely confidential.”

I nodded. “Of course. They won’t say a thing.”

Danica pauses to give the question some serious thought. Not surprising. She’s a woman who likes to think before she dips her toes in the water—it’s kept her and her partner out of trouble a lot in the past. She and Clayne don’t talk about it much, but they work best when she does the planning.

“First off, I think women are simply drawn to strong, confident men—alpha males,” she said. “I’m not talking about arrogant buttheads who think a woman can’t do anything on their own. I’m talking about real men who know when something is wrong, knows what needs to be done to fix it, and aren’t scared to step into an ugly situation and do it.”

I silently agreed. The two women at the table beside us nodded, too, clearly listening in.

“Maybe women are hardwired at some level to look for those attributes in a guy, like some part of us instinctively recognizes that kind of man is good mate material,” Danica continued. “Clayne’s confident strength is one of the things that drew me to him in the beginning.” Her mouth curved into a smile. “That kind of thing is a serious turn-on for me.”

“Me, too!” the woman at the table next to us said, then blushed. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to listen in. It’s just that I have a serious thing for alpha males.”

I glanced at Danica, expecting her to suggest going somewhere more private so we could finish our conversation, but she only laughed. Suddenly, we were a bunch of girls sitting around chatting about our favorite subject—guys.

“On top of the whole alpha thing, you get men like Clayne who just happen to be a werewolf, too,” Danica said. “Being a werewolf takes alpha to a whole different level. Besides the strength and confidence, there’s the body. Mmm, talk about ripped.”

Danica closed her eyes for a moment, no doubt imagining Clayne naked. The other women and I patiently waited while she finished whatever daydream trip she happened to be on. When she finally opened her eyes and remembered that we were there, her face colored.

“Sorry about that,” she said, picking up her latte and hastily taking a sip.

“Don’t be,” said the other woman at the table. She was twirling her hair around her finger so fast, I thought she might take off out of her seat like a helicopter.

Danica grinned. “Well, there’s the animal grace of course. Guys like Clayne Buchanan—not that I’ve ever actually met anyone else quite like him, but you know what I mean—possess this mesmerizing grace. Everything they do is pure poetry in motion. Watching him walk across a room makes me think of a muscled wolf stalking his prey.” She winked. “Or his mate.”

Nobody was interrupting now, not even me. We were all on the edge of our seats.

“I guess I should probably mention the animal lust.” Danica bit her lip, considering that, then shook her head. “Nah, you guys don’t want to hear about that.”

“Yes, we do!” the two women beside us said in unison.

Danica laughed. She knew she had us. “Well, alpha werewolves like it a little rough, as the shredded little nothings in my panty draw can tell you. I’ve woken up after a night of lovemaking with bite marks in all kinds of places. Not that I’m complaining,” she quickly added. “It might just be me, but if it’s the right guy, I don’t mind a few territorial markings”

The woman who’d been twirling her hair sighed. “No, it’s not just you.”

I glanced around and realized the two women beside us weren’t the only ones caught up in Danica’s words. With all the heavy breathing and lip biting going on in Starbucks, things might be getting a bit out of hand. Time to wrap this up.

I smiled and held out my hand to Danica. “Thanks so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to stop by and talk to us. You’ve given us a lot of insight into the world of the alpha werewolf and why he’s so damn sexy.”

“Wait!” The hair-twirler caught Danica’s arm. “Before you go, I have a question. Do you know where we can find an alpha werewolf of our own?”

Danica looked taken aback for a second, but then smiled. “You know, it’s funny you should mention that. I was just talking to John Loughlin—the Director of the DCO. He’s always on the lookout for shifters. He mentioned that there are rumors of an entire pack of alpha werewolves living in Dallas. I think he said something about them working for the Dallas PD SWAT. You might want to be on the lookout for the next book from Paige Tyler—Hungry Like the Wolf. I understand she’s actually been in contact with this pack.” She swung her gaze on me. “Isn’t that right, Paige?”

All eyes in the coffee shop turned to look in my direction. Yikes, this could get complicated.

HER LONE WOLF by Paige Tyler is a Joyfully Recommended Read this month!

FBI Special Agent Danica Beckett walked away from the man she loved years ago to save his life.  She comforts herself in her work but has been unable to move on.  When grisly murders land in her territory she must reach out for help from her old boss.  Danica’s history with shifters tells her the killer is a shifter and more dangerous than her and her new partner can handle.  She asked for help but she never expected to see the man who holds her heart to walk back into her life.

The absolute last thing shifter Clayne Buchanan wants is to work with the woman who broke his heart into a million pieces.  However, orders are orders and if a shifter murderer needs to be put down he is the man for the job.  Clayne just didn’t counted on the difficult time he would have being so close to the woman that got away.

A killer wants to play a game of cat and mouse with the feds.  He stalks his prey lasciviously taunting Danica and Clayne.  Once again, Danica and Clayne must work together or find themselves on the wrong end of a shifter’s claws.  Will their passion reignite or will a killer get to them first?

Paige Tyler gets an A+ for Her Lone Wolf and the X-Ops series.  Tyler infuses sexy romance with an outstanding plot and characters that leave you wanting more in Her Lone Wolf.  I could not wait to find out about the woman that Clayne was meant to be with.  Clayne definitely stood out in the firstX-Ops series book, Her Perfect Mate.  He is a very passionate and wild character and that side of him came out a lot in Her Lone Wolf.

The second Clayne and Danica are on the pages together the reader can feel the intensity between them.  It is electric and I couldn’t help but smile with anticipation. There are some ghastly scenes in the novel but they bring the suspense and keep the reader guessing.  Clayne and Danica really are the perfect team.  They have such chemistry, it’s as if they would not be complete without each other.

Her Lone Wolf’s murder mystery is first rate but it’s the emotion that Tyler weaves into the story that makes it unforgettable.  I found myself swept up not only in the relationship between Clayne and Danica but the other characters as well.  With characters like these it’s impossible not to fall in love with them all and keep coming back for more.

Her Lone Wolf is must read romance!
