No one would disagree that Justin Corrin has a gift with a hockey puck.  Justin also has incredible talent with a figure skating pick. His life should have been a dream.  Far from it.  His older hockey player brother is jealous and his father, a college hockey coach, has a fit when he learns that Justin is taking figure skating classes.  Adding to that his hockey player boyfriend insists on staying firmly in the closet.  His mother’s death in a car accident is the final blow in destroying Justin’s home life.  She was the glue that kept them together.  After the funeral he left his fractured family for training in California.

Just missing the podium at Nationals Justin agrees to come home with his demons to face the mess he left behind.  Confronting family members it seems that they are trying to make amends while Justin is the one who won’t let the past go.

New skating programs, developing family relations, and a new hockey boyfriend who’s not in the closet.  Justin is learning that he makes his own drama and his own demons.  It’s up to him to make a life worth cherishing.

Such sorrow and angst in the beginning.  The evolution of the main character’s growth in Picks and Pucks is gritty, realistic, and heartwarming.  Accepting Justin’s invisible demons may take a moment of adjustment, but they have a place in the skater’s maturity so bear with them.  The secondary characters are just as real and intrinsic to the plotline.  Picks and Pucks is the story of a family that’s unraveled by anger and death, however time and love is knitting them back together.   Cheer them on.  I Joyfully recommend Picks and Pucks. Tissue optional.

JoyfullyRecommendedFrom earliest recorded history there have been Guardsmen – a Handler and a Protector – one human and the other a weredog shifter.  They are bondmates for life and when one dies the other follows almost immediately.  At no time in their history has one out lived the other.  Until the day Handler Theo Taylor was gunned down and his Protector Alex Taylor survived.

Three years and Alex continues.  He lives and breathes.  He exists and little more.  And because Alex is still alive he’s expected to take regular checkup trips to the Institute where young Guardsmen are taught and trained for their future.

During one of Alex’s customary visits to the Institute he catches a scent that shouldn’t be possible, his bondmate.  The Protector zeroes in on a man he’s never met before, twenty-six year old unbonded Handler, Marcus Stephanek.  He too is an anomaly, a Handler long past the age of finding his counterpart.  Alex doesn’t want another bondmate, he wants Theo back.  As for Marcus, thrilled at finally meeting his Protector, his heart is literally crushed when Alex denies him.  Wounded souls barely coping with what fate hands them and there’s more to come.

An alternate reality that asks an emotional investment, The Protector is the perfect escape.  The groundwork begins slowly, builds layer upon layer as the pace quickens and the drama unfolds.  Characters from Alex and Marcus to the secondary cast come alive on the page for readers to identify with.  This other world in The Protectors leaves no emotional stone unturned.  I Joyfully recommend The Protectors.  As soon as you finish, you will want to start again.  Alex and Marcus and The Protectors won’t let go.

Readers of Fifty Shades of Grey are sure to love Desired, USA Today bestselling author Stacey Kennedy’s latest seductive, electrifying novel of Club Sin, where fantasy becomes reality.   Kyler Morgan, Master at the legendary Club Sin in Las Vegas, knows how to give women what they want—too well. He hasn’t had a real challenge in a long time. Then Ella Snow enters his life. Beautiful, inhibited, and innocent in the ways of submission and domination, Ella is the new blood he’s been lusting after. Soon, the thrill of training her to embrace his world brings forth desires Kyler cannot control.   After ending an abusive relationship, Ella makes a promise to herself to start living life to the fullest. It’s one of the reasons she seeks out Club Sin. Here, Kyler’s every touch is a lesson in liberation, stirring passions that have no bounds. But as she falls under Kyler’s command, Ella discovers that some secrets are so dark they must come to light. Submission alone may not be enough to save her, leaving her Master with only one question: How can he help Ella heal while unlocking the deep pleasures she craves?   Desired is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.

JoyfullyRecommended

Ella Snow is coming out of a bad marriage and is starting her life over completely.  Part of that was accepting a challenge to live her life like she would die in six months.  Her first act on that challenge was to move to Las Vegas and get a job.  While at her new boss’s wedding, Ella suddenly comes face to face on just how lonely she really is. But that isn’t enough to end her challenge to herself and when one of the sexy groomsmen approaches her, Ella doesn’t say no to anything.

Kyler Morgan is one of the Masters at Club Sin and a cop in Las Vegas.  When he is asked to be one of the groomsmen at fellow Master, Aidan’s wedding, he accepts.  During the reception Kyler notices a beautiful woman that he has never seen before.  Before he can act, Kyler is warned about Ella by Aidan himself because she is Aidan’s legal assistant and very vanilla, but Kyler isn’t scared off by any of that.

One night of erotic passion was enough to show Kyler that Ella was submissive in nature.  Once he learned of her self challenge, he had the perfect way to find out if she could be a Submissive for his Dom.  Ella never expected her challenge to lead her into a BDSM club or to find herself dating one of the club’s Masters.  It takes very little time for both Kyler and Ella to discover that Ella is a perfect Sub, but also quickly becomes apparent to Kyler that Ella is keeping a big secret that is affecting her ability to trust him.  Ella’s immediate past has come to Vegas and Ella is trying to handle it herself while getting in deeper and deeper with Kyler.  When Kyler unexpectedly learns Ella’s secret, he needs her to tell him herself and to find a way to make Ella’s hurt go away permanently.  Ella’s worse fears happen when Kyler and the other couples from Club Sin find out exactly what she has been trying to handle on her own.  Ella learns the true meaning of love and friendship after a night that could have torn apart the life she had come to love.  Now it’s time for Ella and Kyler to discover if they can jump that last hurdle to take them into that loving relationship that all Doms and Subs search for.

When a sexy Cop who happens to be a Dom finds his perfect Sub in a legal assistant who has never experienced the BDSM lifestyle, can they find the path to a forever relationship?  Ella and Kyler both have lots of hurdles to overcome so they can be together forever in Desired.  All of the Ms. Kennedy’s Club Sin books have been intense so far, as well as erotic, but I have to say that Ella and Kyler’s story was the most intense yet.  I hurt when I read just what Ella lost when she faced the truth of her marriage and why she started over and I loved her self challenge.  Kyler was exactly what I thought of when I think of a cop who was a Master Dom.  I loved how Kyler lead Ella into his lifestyle and showed her just what they could be together.  I could see why Ella thought she had to deal with her problems herself and to not trust even the legal system she worked in herself.  I really loved how tight Ella and Kyler came together even from the beginning and also how Aidan did his best to protect her without knowing exactly what was wrong.  Kyler and Ella’s story had me so intrigued that I ended up reading it into the night and being very, very tired the next day.

There were so many things that I like and loved about Ella and Kyler’s story, that I just have to Joyfully Recommend Desired as a story you won’t want to put down.  Stacey Kenndy has written a tale full of discovery, true friendship, and a passion that is worth the journey it took to grab hold of it.  You don’t have to read the other Club Sin books in order, but I just bet that once you read one, you will go back for the others.

“The alpha author of paranormal romance” (Booklist) draws us back into her extraordinary Psy-Changeling world, a world torn between violence and peace, passion and ice... Assassin. Soldier. Arrow. That is who Vasic is, who he will always be. His soul drenched in blood, his conscience heavy with the weight of all he’s done, he exists in the shadows, far from the hope his people can almost touch—if only they do not first drown in the murderous insanity of a lethal contagion. To stop the wave of death, Vasic must complete the simplest and most difficult mission of his life. For if the Psy race is to survive, the empaths must wake... Having rebuilt her life after medical “treatment” that violated her mind and sought to suffocate her abilities, Ivy should have run from the black-clad Arrow with eyes of winter frost. But Ivy Jane has never done what she should. Now, she’ll fight for her people, and for this Arrow who stands as her living shield, yet believes he is beyond redemption. But as the world turns to screaming crimson, even Ivy’s fierce will may not be enough to save Vasic from the cold darkness...

Silence has fallen, bringing hope to the Psy race…if they can survive the aftermath.  The Psy’s only hope for survival lies with the empaths, a designation almost entirely obliterated when the Silence Protocol was put in place.

Vasic is an Arrow to his core.  He’ll protect his people until the end, though he may not have long.  His conscience is weighed down by all that he has been forced to do and the implant in his arm is slowly killing him.  Empath Ivy Jane breathes new life into Vasic when he’s tasked with guarding her.  He’ll stand as her shield as she risks everything to save their people, and their growing bond means there’s no chance Vasic can deny his attraction to the beautiful Ivy.  But their burgeoning romance may not survive what lies in store for them.  For not all Psy believe the empaths should exist, and some will do anything to protect what they believe is the “purity” of their race.

Shield of Winter is a stunningly well-crafted book by paranormal romance superstar Nalini Singh.  Vasic and Ivy are two endearing, memorable protagonists who join a long line of fantastic Psy-Changeling heroes and heroines.  Vasic is a man who’s been used as a weapon for so long it breaks my heart.  He’s so much more than his abilities, yet precious few outside the Arrows see him as more than such.  I wanted to see Vasic truly experience life and love, and Ivy is the reason he does.  She’s strong and deeply caring, and I admired her willingness to risk so much for the good of her people, even though she was almost broken as a child because of the Silence Protocol.  Vasic and Ivy make a heck of a couple, their passion and blossoming love for one another making the pages of Shield of Winter fly by.

While Ivy and Vasic’s romance is the heart of Shield of Winter, it’d be remiss of me not to mention the worldbuilding Ms. Singh does in this book.  The end of Silence has sent shockwaves through the Net and we see the horrifying fallout that threatens to crush the Psy race.  If they can survive the infection and chaos among the Net, there is hope for them to become stronger and better as a whole.  The empaths are the key to the race’s survival, but figuring out how to unlock the empath’s abilities and use them to protect the race isn’t easy.  There’s amazing advances as well as heartbreak in Shield of Winter, and I’ll leave it to readers to uncover what Ms. Singh has in store for the Psy.

Shield of Winter is the thirteenth full-length book in the Psy-Changeling series and I don’t recommend reading it as a standalone.  Each book in the series builds upon the last, and though Ms. Singh does a great job of providing all the information necessary to read Shield of Winter within the book, I suggest at least reading Heart of Obsidian before diving into Vasic and Ivy’s story.  Fans of the series will surely devour the new information uncovered in Shield of Winter and the appearance of some past favorite heroes and heroines is both necessary to the story and just plain fun.

Ms. Singh consistently writes incredible, intelligent stories and Shield of Winter is no exception.  I loved this complex, fascinating romance from beginning to end and I can’t wait to see where Ms. Singh takes readers next.  Joyfully Recommended!

Detective Chris Ford has been fighting a mysterious illness.  He never seems to completely recover from it. When he attempts to do more than he should he’s rescued by Dr. Robyn Lassiter. Robyn is an ER doctor who has seen more than her fair share of mystery illnesses and death lately. It doesn’t take long before Robyn and Chris realize that a rash of what appears to be common burglaries is anything but. Searching for a serial killer they find that they are also falling in love. But can they figure out who the killer is before he finds a way to kill again?

I have to admit, I’ve been a huge Jo Davis fan since her Station Five novels. I was almost afraid to try the Sugarland Blue series because I loved the others so much. But with In His Sights, Jo Davis has hooked me yet again. In His Sights turns steamy, passionate scenes to dripping with suspense, nothing is missing from this book! Highly recommended for those readers who are looking for a book to draw you in and keep you mesmerized until the end!
