Jase Hollister is an ex-con determined to start a new life with his foster brothers in the small town of Strawberry Valley.  His new life doesn’t include a steady woman though. He is completely content to fill his bed with random women each night never getting serious.  However, there is something about the beautiful Brook Lynn Dillon that has Jase all tied up in knots.  Perhaps, part of the problem is her refusal to be just another one-night-stand to him.

Brook Lynn has always had a difficult life.   She was born with a hearing problem that caused her to need surgery and implants to control her hearing volume.  Since the death of their parents Brook Lynn has been holding down several jobs and managing her sister’s wild antics.  It is her sister’s drunken behavior that lands Brook Lynn in the path of the latest rich and powerful man to move to Strawberry Valley, Jase Hollister.

Powerful sexual chemistry draws Jase and Brook Lynn together leaving them no choice but to try to purge the fire between them with one night of passion.  They soon find that one night will never be enough but can they deal with the truths that are about to come out?

The Closer You Come is an A++ romance! I cannot get enough of Jase and Brook Lynn.  These two strike so many emotional chords it was impossible not to fall in love with them! Jase is suffering from a rough upbringing and horrific acts that happened to him behind bars.  His past is blocking his romantic progress.  He feels that he is a bad bet when it comes to women.  Brook Lynn is so busy taking care of others and barely making enough to scrape by she has little time to think about romantic entanglements.  However, the closer these two come to each other the more difficult it is to ignore the potent feelings between them.

I also love the relationship between Jase, West and Beck. They have strong bonds holding them together. It is obvious how much they each care for one another and are willing to do anything to make sure they all end up happy.  Their scenes range from hilarious to deeply emotional.  Ms. Showalter packs her Original Heartbreakers with all the right kinds of emotion.

I’m still thinking about the characters of The Closer You Come days after finishing the book. One thing I have always loved about Ms. Showalter’s writing is her character development.  Jase and Brook Lynn both grow by leaps and bounds in the pages of The Closer You Come.  I became so immersed in their story that I felt a part of it.  I had the rare experience of being able to laugh, smile, love and even cry with the characters as they discovered what life could really offer them.  Showalter’s first full length Original Heartbreakers novel The Closer You Come is a Joyfully Recommended Love Story that warms the heart and soul.

The last thing Kenna Starr wants to do is attend the Engagement party for her mother and the man her mother’s been having an affair with since Kenna was a child. The people of Strawberry Valley never forget a scandal and Kenna has to live down two. The first being her mother’s choice of men and the next is a teenage pregnancy. While she would change her mother’s status she would never give up her precious daughter, Norrie.

Dane Michaelson is returning to Strawberry Valley to start a new chapter of his life.  However, he’s not keen on his father’s choice to marry his long-time mistress.  One thing he hopes to accomplish during their farce of an engagement party is an apology to Ms. Kenna Starr his soon-to-be step-sister for harsh words said in anger years ago. Dane never counted on the powerful feelings Kenna would inspire.

Kenna can’t fight her intense attraction to Dane but his womanizer history leaves her determined to keep him at arm’s length. Dane came by his rich and charming reputation honestly. He’s set his eyes on Kenna and plans to take her to bed or else! Will these future step-siblings find everlasting love or will small town reputations keep them apart?

Gena Showalter’s first Original Heartbreakers contemporary romance The One You Want smashes the competition bringing small town romances back on to my favorites list!

I felt an immediate connection to Kenna and Dane. I was drawn to their strong feelings about their parents, family, friends and each other.  I absolutely could not get enough of Kenna’s daughter Norrie. I love her to pieces! She is hysterical! She is the typical child that repeats everything she hears at the most inappropriate times. All of Ms. Showalter’s secondary characters are layered with interesting characteristics that leave the readers wanting to get to know them better.  I can’t remember when I have felt so excited about a new series. I can’t wait to begin the next novel in the series.

Kenna and Dane share an explosive chemistry that left me counting down the seconds until they gave into their feelings for each other.  I love the fact that Ms. Showalter manages to give the reader a full story where the characters are able to resolve their deeper issues in a novella without feeling rushed.

The One You Want gives you all the best S’s: sexy, sensitivity and supreme satisfaction!

To do that she’s recruited local football legends to return home and help fundraise. With the way his life has been going the last thing Chase Sanders needs is to return to Stewart Mills and fundraise. And so he finds himself staying in Coach’s house, helping try to save the team and most surprisingly of all, falling for Coach’s daughter. Maybe Stewart Mills is just what he needs after all?

Kelly and Chase are both carrying baggage and both are sure that a new relationship is the last thing they need. That doesn’t stop them from falling in love. I found myself becoming involved in Stewart Mills and I can’t wait for the next book!  I’ve never read a Shannon Stacey book that I haven’t loved and Under the Lights is a wonderful example of why I always pick her books up. What a delightful start a new series!
