Grant Cassidy know he wants Katrina Koslova from the moment he sees her. But Katrina doesn’t have time for a relationship, no matter how hot the chemistry is between them. As a famous quarterback, Grant’s not used to women not being interested and he intends to pursue Katrina. But as their relationship becomes something more can Katrina let go and let Grant in?

Quarterback Draw maybe my favorite my favorite Play by Play novel! Grant and Katrina make the book sizzle page after page. Jaci Burton has always been a favorite author of mine and Quarterback Draw proves why!

Kara Watson is a former Marine trying to figure out her next moves now that she isn’t in the military—including if she should just rejoin—and working in a coffee shop to make ends meet while she decides.  Kara has had a couple of high points in this year.  The first was when she rescued her pit bull, Brodie Hawaii, (because that is their hopeful future destination) and the other is seeing one of her regulars at the coffee shop.  Kara thinks he might be a vet who is having trouble now that he is out of the military, but she does seem to watch for him and have his order at the ready.

Ludvig “Vig” Rundstrom is a Viking and a Raven. He was also slowly, very slowly working up the nerve to ask Kara out. But before that could happen, he finds her dying in the alley behind the coffee shop she works at. Vig just can’t let Kara die, so he calls on the Goddess Skuld to see if she will accept Kara as one of her Crows, and the rest is soon to be history.

Kara wakes up in a huge house filled with a strange selection of women living there.  There is everything from tattoo artists to actresses, and they all have one thing in common—they have all died and accepted Skuld’s offer to be one of her warriors.  Kara is a bit confused by all that is suddenly her life, yet she is determined to make the best of it, even if Kara’s drive for organization might put her in conflict with all the other Crows. Kara finds herself thrown in at the deep end, and it is getting serious on the job training.  Part of that training is learning about the other Nordic groups who do things for the Gods. Kara finds out that Vig is actually a hunky Raven, and he really is a Viking and a weapons master. Vig helps Kara during her struggles to come to grips with what the Crows do and her own beliefs. Along the way, Vig and Kara learn that passion is theirs for the taking if Kara can decide what to do with her life and if the Crows and Ravens can survive to find out what is turning their world upside down right now.

A woman-shy Viking and a take-control former Marine end up joining forces to find not only love, but to defeat a group trying to destroy the world as it is known in The Unleashing.  OMG! I just loved the Crows—from Kara to Chole to Erin and all of them in between.  I really loved how Kara worked to find her place in her new circumstances. Finding out how Vig gave that life to Kara, because he didn’t want to lose her before he could really know her, made me want to give him a huge hug, too.  The adventures that Kara and Vig went through just to have the chance at a forever, had me rolling my eyes at times and laughing at other times.  They might be from very different backgrounds but, man, they are so right for each other.

I can already tell that The Crows will be another must-read series by Ms. Laurenston for me. The Unleashing had it all for me, including snarky and funny women who take no prisoners, but will die to protect one another.  Kara in particular is just that type of woman, and Vig was the strong man who loves her even with all her kookiness. I can say for sure that this is one book that will be staying on my reader. There is so, so much I haven’t told you that will keep you engrossed in this book until it’s over. Needless to say, I Joyfully Recommend The Unleashing as a must-read.

Arial Rochester has known she was different since she was a small child and has tried her entire life to keep her differences a closely-held secret.  Arial is one of the people who was born with extremely strong psychic abilities.  As the only child of a very wealthy couple, Arial knows that she has a bigger chance than normal of being a target if her abilities come out.  Now grown up and at her first job and living on her own for the first time, Arial is loving her first experiences of freedom.  However, after an attack which made Arial use her abilities to save herself goes viral online, Arial turns to her rocks—her parents.  That viral video will turn Arial’s life inside out and upside down before it’s all over.

Beau Devereaux is one of the Devereaux children and one of the heads of Devereaux Security.  Beau and his siblings have done everything they can to put their parents’ reputation and business associates behind them and have a thriving and well regarded business now.  Beau was unusually drawn to a video showing an attack on a young woman, and he can’t figure out why exactly. With so many demands on his time with a new and busy business, Beau puts the video behind him until he discovers the same young woman in his lobby requesting a meeting with him or his brother.  Intrigued, Beau invites the woman into his office.

Arial promised her father a while ago that if she ever needed help and he wasn’t available, that she had to go to the Devereaux. Arial has no idea why her father made her promise or how he knows them.  But after a major security breach in her family’s protection, Arial is on the run and scared. Beau isn’t sure if he should accept Arial as a client, but something about her story and her body language has him agreeing to her requests. When the danger hits them immediately, Beau knows that someone is after Arial, and it seems that they have excellent sources. This is the first of many attempts to get Arial and to get rid of Beau. Beau and his team work with Arial to find out who got to her family and who wants Arial so badly. On the run, Arial is about to learn about her abilities and everyone within her scope will be affected by them, for good or bad, because Arial is ready to make people pay for what has happened in the last week or so.

Take one strong and protective man and one shy but powerful and determined woman and stir, not shake for goodness shake, and you have a story that will keep you reading until way too late into the night.  Arial and Beau not only find the answers to what is going on immediately, while dodging the danger directed at them all while finding a love that no abilities will be able to harm in In His Keeping. I will state right off that do not start this book if you have to get up early in the morning, because you won’t want to put it down, even to sleep.  I fell in love with Arial and Beau immediately, even with the footsy work going on as they first meet.  I loved watching as Arial and Beau discovered that their attraction was so much more than a minute thing and how fast they clicked. I also enjoyed watching as Arial found that she could stand up to anything, including murderous hitmen and Beau’s obnoxious older brother. The suspense kept me turning the pages as fast as could to see what was going to happen next. Actually, there was very little I didn’t enjoy as I went along with Beau and Arial on their journey.

In His Keeping has the perfect combo of suspense and passion with so many more elements thrown in to keep you enthralled.  If you haven’t guessed yet, I absolutely had to Joyfully Recommend this book as not only a must-read but a keeper that you will read over and over again. You do not have to read this series in order, I admit I didn’t, however I am going straight to my favorite book seller to buy book one because I just have to see what happened there.  I really cannot wait until the next book comes out, because I’m truly loving this series so far.

Sybil Chalmers is the lover of Caine Yoder and has been for quite a few years.  She has always hoped that he would one day accept all that she offered him, but she has known it would be a huge gamble to have the man that was Caine forever.  Sybil knows one of Caine’s biggest secrets—that of whom he really is. Sybil feel in love with the man, and she is more than willing to fight for that man.  The question is, when the truth is more well-known in the town, will he be willing to stay and accept all that Sybil will give?

David Sutter, for all purposes, died one night many years before when he was a teenager, and Caine Yoder was born.  Caine was a hard working Amish man who could be cranky at times, but was respected by the town of Madison.  David had to disappear after the night he tried to break free from a personal nightmare. Things went drastically wrong.  Many lives were changed that night and, finally, after so many years, the truth is coming out.  But it seems like someone doesn’t just want the truth to come out, but for the members of a twisted group to pay for their crimes in the ultimate way.

David knew when he admitted to the police who he really was, that he would be the center of attention for the citizens of Madison.  But what he didn’t expect was to find that people close to him for one reason or another to also be turning up dead once he left his identity as Caine.  Sybil knew that helping David adjust to life in town wouldn’t be easy and that there would be a lot of talk, but she also didn’t expect him to become the person at the center of another round of deaths that seems to be connected to him somehow.  Not only is the truth coming out about the sick group who sexually abused boys—both in the past and the present—but by the time the answers are all revealed, the truth about the newest murders will also be resolved.  Madison had many deep and dark secrets, but now the majority of the truth is known, and it is finally Sybil and David’s time to love in the sunlight instead of just in the darkness.

A man thought long dead suddenly comes clean and, with the help of a woman who has loved him as both men, gets the justice so long in coming.  Darker Than Desire brings David and Sybil closer together and tears them apart only to have love win-out when all is said and done.  David has been hiding in plain sight for years now, and one of his only highlights in life has been his time with Sybil.  I couldn’t believe how hard it must have been for Sybil to first keep quiet when she knew about the dual identities that David had. I also felt for David as he tried to keep Sybil safe by turning away from her.  I have to say that I’m not so sure I would have forgiven him as fast as Sybil did, but I could see why he did it and just how hard he worked to make it right at the end.  I was amazed as many of the threads were pulled and knotted in this book about the many secrets that Madison had. I was also amazed by the many internal relationships that were exposed as David and Sybil’s story unrolled.  I am so very happy that so many of the destroyed lives in Madison have finally found love and happiness.  Darker Than Desire is one heck of a ride from the beginning to the end—

bringing David and Sybil together and tying up almost all of the loose ends in this series. I have loved this series, with all its many twists and turns, from the first novellas until now when David finally has his shot at happiness.

I just had to Joyfully Recommend Darker Than Desire as a must-read. In fact, I highly recommend the entire series as a must-read. I do believe that this series must be read in order to understand all of the tiny clues along the way. Remember to start with the novellas so that you understand this strange town of Madison and its mysteries.

A combination of scientific ego and military shortsightedness nearly destroys all of mankind.  In the aftermath there are pockets of uninfected humans, people who suffer from catatonia and Rot, revenants, and soldiers with superpowers who are infected with the dormant virus unable to ever join with those uninfected.

The only life Rhys Cooper’s known is among a dwindling number of scared people barely surviving. When a pack of revenants attack Rhys tries to use himself as bait to save his sister and her baby.  Unfortunately the plan doesn’t work.  He is saved by the unexpected arrival of Sergeant Darius Murrell and his team.  His sister and nephew aren’t as lucky.

Well, Rhys is saved from the revenants, but now that they’ve exposed him to the virus he will either become a revenant or he will slowly Rot and sink into catatonia.  The sergeant explains that his only chance at living is if they infect him with their version of the virus through sexual exposure.  He will turn into a super soldier who can never live with the uninfected population in Colorado Springs.

It’s a bitter pill to swallow for the virginal nineteen year old.  Rhys doesn’t even have the time to mourn his lost family before he has to make the choice to live by allowing multiple soldiers into his body.  This horrible new world doesn’t have time for soft things like love so is this grim reality worth it?  Rhys chooses to live but wonders if he made the right decision every time they come across another horror.  There’s only so much he can take and falling for the sergeant can only make it worse.   Dying or surviving.  Only time will tell.

Powerful. Poignant.  At times difficult.  Other times heartwarming.  Strain runs the gamut of emotional highs and lows.  Rhys’s story is riveting. He is the epitome of what humanity strives for.  Decency and innocence. His truth shines.  One of those “can’t put down for any reason” books that draws the reader into the story and never lets go.  There are also horrible moments, difficult to swallow.  Strain doesn’t pull any punches.  The sweet with the sorrow.  Strain balances the science fiction genre with a special romance beautifully.  I Joyfully recommend Strain. It’s not for everyone, but those who like this kind of blended story will love Strain.
