With the acclaimed Midnight Breed series, New York Times bestselling author Lara Adrian has written thrilling novels of electrifying romance and heart-pounding suspense—page-turners in which humans and vampires live tenuously side by side. In Crave the Night, Adrian brings the Breed and its world to the brink of war, where even the deepest passion can shatter into violence. Born and raised to be an emotionless killing machine, Nathan is one of the most lethal Breed vampires in existence. A key member of the Order—an elite group of warriors charged with protecting both mortals and vampires—Nathan executes each mission with flawless precision and a total lack of mercy. Now he must pursue a powerful, hidden enemy. But Nathan’s hard discipline and training are no match for the fierce pull he feels toward a young woman he has no right to desire—a woman of wealth and high social standing who has long been promised to another Breed male, and who may also prove to be the key to rooting out Nathan’s elusive quarry. Jordana lives a life of glittering privilege as a member of a prominent Breed family in Boston. Surrounded by fine things and fawning admirers, Jordana wants for nothing—until she crosses paths with a dark, intense warrior from the Order and finds herself swept into an impulsive, sizzling kiss that neither of them will forget. As much as she tries to deny her deep feelings for Nathan, Jordana cannot resist the craving to be near him, to break through his forbidding walls and see the man he truly is. But getting close to Nathan will thrust Jordana into a treacherous new world, forcing her to risk all she has and all she knows about herself and her past. And loving this seductive man could be the most dangerous temptation of all.
Nathan was born to be not only a Breed, but one of the strongest and swiftest killers around being one of the Breeds that were created in a lab and only trained to not feel anything or risk intense pain. Once Nathan was saved from the lab by his mother and her mate, he began working for the Order in Boston for a few years now and is the leader of his team. Right now his team is searching for a bottom feeder and club owner to discover some information about the newest threat to both the Breeds and humans.
Jordana has been raised with only the best and most elegant of things around her by her father. As Jordana has gotten older, her love of antique art and the history surrounding them has been her main passion. Now that Jordana is almost twenty-five, she is engaged to an old friend of her father’s but that is really the last thing on her mind right now. A museum exhibit that Jordana and her best friend have been working on is about to open and the last minute details are keeping them both hopping.
Nathan can’t believe that he and his team are about to burst into a museum exhibit opening while trying to stop another member of the Order from disrupting it. The worse part of this for Nathan is facing Jordana, the woman who kissed him not long ago and has been on his mind ever since. Circumstances are throwing Nathan and Jordana together at every chance and it doesn’t take long for the passion that seems to be simmering between them to break free. When danger threatens Jordana, Nathan isn’t about to let her be harmed or even killed without being her shield. Jordana learns that her life has been a lie and that her true beginnings are even more fantastic than she could ever have dreamed of. Nathan and Jordana have another chance to grab the love that has been hovering around them and both reach for that ring with both hands, even knowing that some of the answers they discovered will mean that life is going to be bumpy for a long period of time. The danger isn’t going to go away anytime soon, yet both Nathan and Jordana both know that their love will give them the edge no matter what.
A born killer and a socialite come together while surrounded with danger and hidden passion in Crave the Night. I loved seeing that another one of the Breeds that were created in the lab to just be a killing machine found out that feelings and passion are worth the effort to overcome his training. I also loved seeing Jordana fight for what she really wanted and so have the strength to overcome all the lies and truths that would always place her life in danger. Nathan and Jordana had to overcome so much to reach the place that allowed them to grab their place in the nirvana that mating gives you. I also enjoyed seeing even more of just how the second generation of the Order is finding the same type of hard earned love that their parents have now.
This new threat to both the Order and Breeds is going to be a doozy and yet I have no doubt that just like Nathan and Jordana struck a serious blow to it, the others will do the same. The journey that Nathan and Jordana had to travel before they could rest and be together kept me up way too late a couple of nights which to me shows just how great their story was – I seriously didn’t want to put it down. Crave the Night is a must read for anyone who has loved the Breeds from the beginning or even those that have just discovered them with this next generation. Nathan and Jordana’s story is packed with danger, action and still takes the time to explore the passion that emerges between them – all wrapped up in a book that I just have to Joyfully Recommend.
