Series: Mercy Thompson #9
Published by Berkley Publishing Group Genres: Urban Fantasy
Life is pretty good right now for Mercy, Adam, Jesse, and the rest of the Columbia Basin Pack with only the daily pack grips to deal with. Mercy has healed from their last adventure that destroyed her shop and almost killed her. Best of all, Mercy and Adam’s relationship has never been hotter. Of course, that all changes when the Fae decide to take another strike at the world and this time using the Tri-Cities as ground zero. Mercy, Adam, and several of the pack show up and ultimately defeat the giant troll who was causing harm and destroying just about anything within its reach.
Just when the battle was at the point either side could have won, the pack received assistance from old friends and a mysterious newcomer. Mercy, then fed up with the BS, makes a proclamation that will change not only the pack’s lives, but every life worldwide before it’s over. The only question is, whether that change will be a good thing for the future or descend many lives into chaos. The immediate outcome of that one statement will hit Mercy hard, but Adam’s love and the backing of the pack will keep Mercy on track. In the world of the paranormal, strength and respect is everything and that is exactly what will be needed before Mercy, Adam, and the entire Columbia Basin pack and a few friends find a way to not only make peace with the Fae, but also give all sides—
humans, packs, clans, Fae, and all other paranormal entities—a way to end the chaos and save face while doing so. Of course, before that happens, there will be a few dissenters that will need to be taken care of and lots of danger to get around.
Now the really hard work is about to begin, and it is topped off with a few pans of well-deserved, yummy brownies. After all, everyone knows that chocolate makes everything better.
The world has been getting more and more dangerous since the Fae separated themselves from the world and then started proving all over again just how scary they really were. Mercy and Adam always knew their lives would be interesting and not in a good way sometimes, but now it appears they will also be the ones behind a way to help the world come back together—maybe even better than it was before. Fire Touched follows the very dangerous and yet necessary path as Mercy, Adam, and all the others find a way to help the humans, Fae, and paranormal entities find a way to talk to each other again. By the time I finished this book, all I could think of was wow, and I so wanted one of those iced brownies. You will understand once you read the book, because everything is tied together. I loved how easy and natural Adam and Mercy’s relationship is now and how the pack worked…well, after a certain meeting. Even more, I enjoyed learning more about what was behind the Fae’s recent and not so recent actions. That Mercy and Adam ended up being in deadly danger to achieve their ending was no surprise, yet I loved reading every single word about what they were doing and why. To me, Fire Touched seemed to be a major arc turning point, and I can’t wait to see what direction Mercy and Adam’s world turns to next. There is so much more I would love to discuss, yet it would take away others’ enjoyment of the book, so all I will say is this is a must-read for any Mercy Thompson lovers, and it just had to be Joyfully Recommended as a true keeper.
