Too much of a good thing... With her long ponytail and sparkling green eyes, Tessa Donovan looks more like the girl next door than a businesswoman - or a heartbreaker. Which may explain why Detective Luke Asher barely notices her when he arrives to investigate a break-in at her family's brewery. He's got his own problems - starting with the fact that his partner Simone is pregnant and everyone thinks he's the father. Tessa has her hands full, too. Her brother's playboy ways may be threatening the business, and the tension could tear her tight-knit family apart. In fact, the only thing that could unite the Donovan boys is seeing a man come after their ñbabyî sister. Especially a man like Luke Asher. But Tessa sees past the rumors to the man beneath. He's not who people think he is - and neither is she.
Tessa is the lone female left in her family. The fact she has grown up and is now a woman seems to have escaped her bothers notice though Then again the fact she wears her hair in a ponytail and looks like the girl next door might add to the overall
impression. But, when she meets Detective Luke Asher she will let her feminine wiles out to play, to see if he is as attracted to her as she is to him.
Luke Asher has been hurt by women, with his pregnant partner the latest in what seems like a long line of women. Not only does everyone at the station think he is the father of her baby (which he isn’t), but his disastrous divorce has also made the rumor mill. He never expects to be attracted to Tessa, or have anything come from it once her brother Jamie warns him off. But it looks like Tessa and his heart have different ideas.
Tessa is trying to keep her family together. It looks like her playboy brother may have finally gone too far. The family business was broken into and the deal they have in the works to take the business to the next level is in jeopardy. Tessa will do whatever she can to keep that from happening. But as things start to unravel will she give up the man she loves to try and “keep things the same”?
Good Girls Don’t isn’t just a fast paced love story it is a tale filled with intrigue and suspense. Ms. Dahl did a great job in developing Tessa from the woman who has a hard time taking care of herself, as she is too busy trying to take care of everyone else, to a woman forced to confront her most secret fears or face losing the love of her life. Additionally while parts of the story are serious there are a number of scenes that will make you laugh out loud, such as when Tessa’s brothers find out she is not the virgin they think she is. Good Girls Don’t is a fantastic start to the Donovan Brothers Trilogy and I highly recommend you picking it up for a summer read.
