A Lexi Carmichael MysteryItaly might seem like a long way to go to hide after a disastrous date. But when sexy überhacker Slash (no, that's not his real name) asks me to go with him to Rome on an investigation, the timing is sort of perfect. My messed-up love life becomes the least of my worries, though, after the dead body, the near-kidnapping and the discovery of a top secret encrypted file that even I can't hack. With time running out, there's only one thing to do: call in the legendary Zimmerman twins and my best fluent-in-Italian friend, Basia, to crack the code. Now if only someone could help me solve the mystery of whether Slash is flirting, or if all the kissing is just one of those
Lexi Carmichael is a self proclaimed geek girl who is still struggling to find her way in society. Yet, put her in front of a computer and give her a quest and she is extraordinary and usually finds what she is looking for. Right now, Lexi is off to Rome with Slash – a mystery man who works for our government but has a very interesting background and is really hot. This isn’t where Lexi expected to find herself since the night before she had a disastrous date with Slash. But when Slash appeared in her office and hired her to help clear his uncle, their firm was hired and Lexi was off to Rome.
Slash is a man of many names and so far not one of them is his real one so far as Lexi can tell. Once she and Slash arrive in Rome they are meet up with a friend of Slash’s who is also one of the Vatican guards. Lexi and Slash also meet up with his uncle and begin the search for who used his codes to steal from the Vatican. It takes no time for Lexi to find out who did it. But that is only the beginning of a hunt for answers that place not only Lexi and Slash in danger but also their friends who have come to help untangle a secret code that will prove that what began as a simple hunt for stolen money is really something much, much bigger and people are willing to kill to have it. During the same time Lexi and Slash are hunting for their answers, simmering attraction between them comes even closer to erupting into passion. Lexi might be unsure of herself in social and relationship encounters but even she knows that things are heating up between her and Slash. The question for her is why someone like him would want a girl geek like her? That almost becomes a moot question when the final answers are revealed and death is waiting to claim the losers.
A spy and a computer geek team up to uncover a secret that will touch the Vatican and change science when revealed in No Place Like Rome. Lexi and Slash seemed like an unlikely team until they traveled to Rome to clear his uncle from a theft charge. They find not only a dangerous web of lies and secrets but also find that their attraction is bringing them closer to passion as they untangle the web for answers. I loved watching as Lexi tries to break an encrypted code but also the mystery of relationships which is more confusing to her than any computer code. I also enjoyed watching as Slash worked hard to keep all those he counts as friends and loved ones safe, only to find that one person alone could not do it. It would take a socially inept girl geek with a strong protective streak for her friends to save the day ultimately. No Place Like Rome is filled with suspense, fun loving geeks, hot spies and an intense attraction that is rising in temperature as the danger gets closer. I thoroughly love watching Lexi Carmichael grow and this adventure is the best one yet.
As a lover of romantic suspense’s where I can’t figure out the “who done it” fast, I have to Joyfully Recommend No Place Like Rome as a must read. While it would help with the background to read the entire series in order, you don’t really have to in order to enjoy this adventure. But I bet you will want to go back and read the other books and novellas after closing the last page.
