Series: Colorado High Country #2
Published by Self Published Genres: Contemporary
I have read a few of Pamela Clare’s I-Team books and I just love her writing, but I had no idea that she had a new series out so when I saw Slow Burn I knew I had to read it. The blurb just sealed the deal because it just sounded like something I would like and oh boy was I right. It looks like the Colorado High Country series is just the opposite of the I–Team series, it’s more of a romance and less suspense but Ms. Clare still won me over and already has me wanting more.
Victoria Woodley is back in Scarlet Springs, Colorado for her best friend Lexi’s wedding. There is a week of activities planned before the big day and the more time she spends with Eric, the best man, the more she falls for him. Since she was recently hurt by her ex she has sworn off men but there is something about Eric that calls to her. Victoria knows she is only there for a week and then has to return to her real life, but she can have a good time with him when she is there or will she end up getting hurt again?
From the moment Eric Hawke met Victoria he knew he wanted her but he knows there is more to her than meets the eye. When his best friend warns him not to get involved with her because she just went through a hard time Eric is desperate to know what happened, but every time it comes up someone always interrupts them. Falling for Victoria wasn’t a part of his plan, after all he is pretty busy running the fire house and being part of the search and recuse team. He knows that she is leaving in a week but that’s not enough time to fall in love, right?
Victoria and Eric were the dream couple, they fall in love when neither is looking for it. Their romance grows naturally, moving from burning chemistry to an everlasting love. Watching it unfold was the best part of reading Slow Burn. I enjoyed every minute of getting to know these two characters and watching the changes and growth they both went through. Eric might have had a playboy reputation but when he comes to realize she is everything that he didn’t know he was missing was swoon worthy and had me rooting for them all the way.
The secondary characters weren’t center stage yet they still held a presence that had me wondering who they were and if they would be getting their own stories in the future. Since I haven’t read the first book in the Colorado High Country series that is definitely something I will be rectifying as soon as possible. Ms. Clare has a way with writing descriptions, they were so vivid I felt as if I was in Scarlet Springs and participating in all the outdoor activities the wedding party were taking part in. The town and the people had me wanting to pack up my life and move their as soon as possible. They were all close, stood together and were welcoming to newcomers.
Slow Burn was low on drama and high on emotions with just the right amount of hot, sexy and sweet. Slow Burn is a stellar read that I highly recommend, Ms. Clare’s characters do not disappoint and I’m already eager for the next installment in this series.
