Fey incursions into the mundane mortal world have been on the rise, and it's Paul MacAllister job to figure out what the king of the local Elven enclave Under the Hill is up to and how to stop it. Rory Ellison was caught up in an attack during one of those incursions and nearly killed by a gang of goblins. He doesn't believe those creature were real, though, and is resisting anything Paul might say or prove to the contrary. Normally Paul would be willing to let Rory go his own way, at least until he's taken care of the more immediate business of the elves. But Rory has a particularly rare gift, one the Elven king needs to have under his control in order to carry out his plan. Keeping Rory away from the fey who will use him, to death if necessary, means protecting him night and day, whether Rory agrees or not. A Hidden Magic is the first in the Sentinels series, which also includes Emerging Magic.

From early childhood Rory Ellison’s been plagued by nightmarish visions of strange and scary creatures.  He’s seen multiple psychiatrists for his so called psychotic episodes and Rory’s even been committed to mental health facilities several times.  Currently the medication Rory takes keeps the visions at a minimum.  His mother worries and smothers him as well which adds to the stress.

The small San Jose bookstore is his refuge away from home and Manny, the owner is one of his few friends.  When Manny invites him to lunch to meet some people Rory is accosted by imaginary demons on the way and looses consciousness.

Rory is unaware that Manny and his friends are one of many small groups of Sentinels, people endowed with magical skills who try to make sure that humans aren’t hurt or killed by the fey from Underhill.  Their leader, Paul MacAllister and the team manage to save Rory from being killed by goblins, but of course after so many years of denial he refuses to accept the possibility of the fey.  Believing in the fey and magic or Paul’s honest interest is asking a lot of someone falsely labeled crazy.

Step into a world where reality is fluid and belief can be questionable for those who see the fey or wield magic.  Imagine being considered psychotic or mentally deficient as long as you can remember and then one day out of the blue being told it’s all real, simply part of another reality, such is Rory’s life in A Hidden Magic.  Adventure, mystery, and painful drama are thrown Rory’s way along with his new friends, Paul and his Sentinels.  The suspense comes to a head, the tension ratchets to the breaking point, and A Hidden Magic shines.
