Even in the fathomless depths of the underworld and the bleak chambers of a damaged heart, the bonds of love can heal…or destroy. He holds the ability to annihilate souls in the palm of his hand. He commands the respect of the most dangerous of demons and the most powerful of angels. He can seduce and dominate any female he wants with a mere look. But for all Azagoth’s power, he’s bound by shackles of his own making, and only an angel with a secret holds the key to his release. She’s an angel with the extraordinary ability to travel through time and space. An angel with a tormented past she can’t escape. And when Lilliana is sent to Azagoth’s underworld realm, she finds that her past isn’t all she can’t escape. For the irresistibly sexy fallen angel known as Azagoth is also known as the Grim Reaper, and when he claims a soul, it’s forever…

Lilliana is an angel with a problem. She knows that she has broken a rule in her job as a Time Traveler and will probably be punished for it—even if she only broke the rules under duress and with extenuating circumstances. But when she is called before Raphael, she is given the worst news. Lilliana’s punishment is to be sent to the Underworld to mate with Azagoth and to be stuck in Sheou-gra forever. Her traveler’s soul will fry up and die under those circumstances. But just as Lilliana is forced to agree to this punishment, she is given an out to escape both Azagoth and to keep her wings and place in Heaven.

Azagoth, the Collector of Souls, is tired of being used by the angels and being alone.  He wants a mate, and he wants a willing one. Like that will happen when he is also known as the Grim Reaper, but that is what he bargains with the next time one of the Heavenly Hosts shows up wanting something from him. He is very surprised to learn that they have a mate for him and that it happened so fast. Not sure what to expect and sure there is a catch, Azagoth makes arrangements for the arrival of his new mate.

Lilliana expects to hate Azagoth on sight, but instead she feels confusion and that leads to passion—one that Lilliana fights with her entire being so she can do what was demanded of her to escape Sheoul-gra. Azagoth isn’t sure he believes that Lilliana is there of her own will, but when she gives him a gift of an hour’s travel to somewhere in the world, he accepts Lilliana and her gifts with wonderment and happiness.  The days are ticking away and Lilliana hasn’t managed to figure out a way to fulfill her escape clause, and now she isn’t really sure she wants to anyway. The unexpected passion that she and Azagoth have found might be worth living in Sheoul-gra, especially with the changes that appear to be taking place in both of them. But before she can decide what to do, Azagoth learns of what she was asked to do and throws her out of Sheoul-gra and his life. Back on the earthly plane, Lilliana may have lost her love, but she still wants to give him something his heart desires, and she finds a way. Broken hearts have a way of staying broken or healing depending upon the parties involved. Can a miracle happen to heal Azagoth’s and Lilliana’s hearts in time to save their love?

Heaven and Hell come together as love blossoms between to lost souls in Azagoth. I totally fell in love with Lilliana and Azagoth as I followed their journey. I really enjoyed watching as they were able to heal places deep inside themselves as their passion grew. Knowing his past, I could understand why Azagoth acted as he did, but I was very happy when he was forced to see the truth and not a betrayal. Lilliana had me as I watched her give Azagoth his wish even as her heart ached. Azagoth is a love story filled with the joy and wonder of falling in love while showing the pain of misunderstanding and separation and a pure happiness of acknowledged love.  I’m really hoping a certain archangel will get what has been coming to him for a few books now in the near future.
