After a run of bad luck with submissives, Dominant Jake Conrad vows never to collar one again. He’s angry when his friends push him into taking in homeless sub Finn, and determined not to fall for their matchmaking. After being treated terribly, beautiful, talented Finn is just as wary as Jake is, which unfortunately brings out Jake’s protective streak.
After being disowned by his family and then kicked out by the Dom who used and abused him for five years, Finn Decker has nowhere to go. He accepts a job at Jake’s in exchange for room and board. He doesn’t expect to be attracted to the commitment-phobic Dom.
Will Jake realize what he could have before he drives Finn away?
Bitter Bonds is a sweet, emotional tale of two scarred men who don’t think they’re worthy of love finding it in each other. I liked both honorable, gruff Jake and gentle, vulnerable Finn. Their struggle to shed their pasts and move on was enjoyable to read. I also really liked the secondary characters, which included the guys from the first book as well as some other men from the Darkness club. Once again a slight paranormal angle ties this story to the first one, but it’s cute rather than intrusive. Overall, I thought Bitter Bonds was less angst-filled than Broken Bonds, but still a good read in its own way. I’m looking forward to seeing the next couple in this series (dare I hope it will be Gavin and his lost love, Alex?).
