I am proud to say I just popped my cherry with Out of Bounds by Lauren Blakely and of course when starting an author I’ve never read before I had no idea what to expect but Ms. Blakely captured my interest right away with her sarcastically fun written characters. All I could think about when reading Out of Bounds is “why haven’t I read her before?” but seriously that is changing and I can’t wait to see where she goes from here as this was her first sports romance, she has me hooked!
Drew Erickson is a fairly new quarterback in the NFL and his contract only allows him to do certain physical actives so for the past few weeks he has been trying his hand at surfing on Venice Beach. While catching some waves a fellow surfer does the unthinkable and his board goes flying right into the back of Drew’s head. Ouch. But this might be one of the best things that ever happened to him because a beautiful blonde is there to make sure he is alright. This woman has no idea who he is and he’s enjoying the conversation and getting to know her but as their time draws to an end his agent calls causing him not to get the rest of her phone number. Drew hopes to see her again but with his life changing he doesn’t know if he will, that is until fate throws her in his path once more.
Dani Paige had a great time with Drew; after he was hit with the surf board, they had drinks and great conversation. But after four days without a phone call she wonders if she pegged him all wrong. As the team lawyer she has access to stats and trade information so finally she decides to see what she can find on him, but comes to find out that he was traded to her team. It’s only a matter of time before they run into one another again but she is convinced she will play it cool. When they see each other for the first time at the team’s fundraiser the attraction is still so strong and after working out their miscommunication they both realize that nothing can ever come of it and decide to be just friends. But when things start to heat up Dani and Drew have to decide if being together is the best thing for both of them or will it interfere with the team?
Out of Bounds is filled with humor, sarcastic banter and a whole lot of sexiness. I swear from the moment I started reading I couldn’t help but crack up with these two well written characters. Out of Bounds is a novella but the story just flowed and was fully formed that I actually felt as if I was reading a full length novel. Ms. Blakely brought these two characters together and established a wonderful relationship between them that was fun, flirty and left me wanting more.
Is Out of Bounds the beginning of a new series for Ms. Blakely? I hope so because after reading this I am hooked. If you love a good romantic comedy that will have you laughing, swooning and leaving you breathless you won’t want to miss Out of Bounds.
