Country Soul by Remmy Duchene
Published by Dreamspinner Press Genres: Contemporary, MM
From the pinnacle of success to the depths of personal ruin, a country singer super star’s announcement stunned his fans and destroyed his faith in the people surrounding him.
During a sold out tour Jackson Rawlings made the decision to come clean and declare his sexuality to the world. By and large fans backed the country legend, but his label Brutus Records and the executives in charge turned their back on the man who’d made them millions. He’d thought they were more than working business partners. He thought they were friends after so many years of success. Absolutely crushed Jackson retired and headed home to Hallesford and the ranch that was his refuge from life on the road.
Marques Lopez, head of Phoenix Records is disgusted with the way his rival label tossed Jackson under the bus. Determined to add the country singer to his own roster Marques takes a trip to the ranch and finds a shell of the singer he’d admired. Within days however it’s easier to give Jackson a reason to return to the stage than trying to untangle their undeniable feelings for one another.
The truth nearly destroys a simple man in the character driven tale Country Soul. An emotionally intense drama plays out between a broken country star and a record label owner. At times Jackson appears too weak, his back bone is almost nonexistent which takes away from an otherwise engaging storyline. Luckily Marques breathes positive life into Country Soul with his charm and wit. Their chemistry is also palpable and gives strength to Jackson and Marques’ uphill and difficult romance.
