Lacey Lancaster suffered a painful divorce a year ago and she is still reeling. Her Abyssinian cat, Cleo is her faithful confidant. When her marriage failed, her self-confidence suffered as well. All Lacey wants is a little respect from her boss in the way of a pay raise and some quiet when she comes home to her apartment. Unfortunately, the walls of her apartment are paper thin and her neighbor and his girlfriend are always fighting, loudly. Lacey finally gets the courage to confront her neighbor about the noise and in the process her neighbor’s cat named Dog takes poor Cleo’s virginity.
Jack Walker has had a thing for his beautiful neighbor since she moved in. Every time he tries to strike up a conversation with her she flees. When she interrupts a fight with his sister, his cat gets lucky with hers. Jack thinks this is absolutely hysterical but Lacey doesn’t have quite the same reaction. When Cleo turns up pregnant, Lacey demands he do his part and Jack is more than eager. Finally, he has his foot in Lacey Lancaster’s door and he plans to use it to his advantage.
Family Affair is a sweet story. It is a fast-paced story with depth. Lacey and Jack make a cute couple. Jack’s cat, named Dog cracks me up. Poor Lacey, I can feel her pain and how horribly her ex’s betrayal has affected her. It’s still impacting her every decision, she’s shutting everyone out because she is afraid of getting hurt. Jack’s resilience makes him a great guy. He knows he wants Lacey and that she has issues so he is willing to wait till she’s ready. His slow seduction of Lacey is charming. Family Affair is a lovely romance.
