With danger closing in, all they have is each other. Haunted by a mission he barely survived, Delta Force operative Mace Stevens still carries a soldier’s burden. Running a small bar in upstate New York, he remains a stone-cold warrior who guards dangerous secrets and stays ready for anything. Anything except beautiful, vulnerable Paige Grayson, who shows up at his door, demanding answers about her heroic stepbrother’s death under his command. Paige bears burdens, too. She’s plagued by demons unleashed by an older brother who committed mass murder before her eyes. But here in this snowy haven with Mace, she almost feels safe from the menacing promises of her insane sibling. As a nurse whose hands can read the deepest thoughts of anyone she touches, Paige knows that Mace needs her as desperately as she needs Mace. And when a faceless killer begins unleashing fresh terror, Mace proves just how far he will go to save the woman who means everything to him.
Paige Grayson lost her rock when the military informed her family that her stepbrother had been killed on a mission. Finding out that he had been killed long before the family was told has Paige determined to find out what happened on that mission and she knows just who to contact. The timing couldn’t be better or worse – depending on how you look at it – as long held secrets have surfaced again and she needs to get away fast.
Mace Stevens has enough trouble on his hands with trying to keep what is left of his Delta Force team together and sane. Their last mission all but destroyed them and they are slowly regrouping. The night that Paige walks into his bar, Mace knows that his troubles have just doubled at least. Mace has no intention of telling Paige anymore than the military has already told her.
Danger seems to have followed Paige to Mace and the rest of the Delta team, good thing they know just what to do with dangerous situations. Emotions are running high all over which makes the passion that Paige and Mace are avoiding even fiercer. As the search is on for who is after Paige, several people are discovering that danger and passion can go hand in hand. As Mace and Paige close in on what’s happening, the passion between them is only grown stronger. When answers come from several directions, will knowing them bring Mace and Paige closer together or will it tear them apart forever?
Old murder and special gifts bring two life-battered people together in a passion that can heal anything. Mace and Paige learn this In The Air Tonight. Paige has spent several years trying to escape her past only to have it burst back into the headlines once again. Not having her stepbrother to lean on makes it even worse. Mace made a pledge long ago to watch out for Paige if it was ever needed. I enjoyed watching as Mace and Paige finally gave in and discovered the passion that was waiting for them. The suspense just gave that passion a spice that made it richer. If a group of people deserved a break and some love, it has to be Mace’s Delta Team. Seeing some of them get a step towards that was great. Seeing Mace and Paige get the happy ending they deserved gave me such a satisfied feeling as I turned the last page over. In The Air Tonight takes murder, suspense, psychic gifts and passion twists them all up and then tosses them out in a way that will keep you wondering what will happen next.
