If not for a roommate’s untimely arrival Richard Sanders suicide attempt would’ve been successful.  Once stabilized Richard is taken to Kirkwood Hospital for the Mentally Ill where he feels more lost than ever.  The newly successful, next big thing artist is feeling more out of control and unloved than ever behind the doors of his ‘safe’ prison.

The one bright note in the facilities boring and dismal schedule is Zander who takes Richard under his wing.  Diagnosed Bi-Polar, which is also Zander’s difficulty, the men bond over their mental issues and the knowledge they are both gay.  Perhaps it’s too fast to feel something or too risky considering all their problems, but they nevertheless make a promise to be together when they are released. With fragile egos and psyches making a vow might be too much to ask…or maybe just enough to hope for…

Pretty Little Words in a Bottle runs the gamut of emotions for two broken men.  This story delves into the cruelty of mental health’s isolation and the real world.  Richard is shown at his lowest and the emotions do come across, the pain and feelings of emptiness.  From this hollow point we watch as he climbs out of the pit with Zander’s help.  The resolution may be a little too smooth, but the problem they will continue to face is depicted which makes for a more realistic storyline.  A powerful drama, Pretty Little Words in a Bottle takes a peek at the difficulty of mental health issues with an objective eye and a lover’s voice.  Intense.
