Series: Shadow #1
Published by Jove Genres: Paranormal
Christine Feehan is a semi new author to me but when I saw this book and read the blurb I really liked how it sounded and of course had to devour it in one sitting. Shadow Rider is the first book in the Shadow series and once I started getting into this new world that Feehan created I was totally hooked. I want to say this story is a contemporary with a paranormal twist. There were no fairies, vampires or even werewolves for that matter, but it was about a family that can mask themselves in shadows which was very unique and intriguing.
Stefano is the head of the powerful Ferraro family. He might be the oldest of his siblings but he is one of the most bad ass heroes I have read about in a long time. The shadow walker legacy goes back centuries and they have a hard time finding their other halves so their marriages are usually arranged so the legacy will live on. It just so happens Stefano is about to leave town for a job when he comes across Francesca by mistake and it turns out to be the best thing that has ever happened to him because she is a rider.
Francesca has no idea that her life is about to change when Stefano steps in and gives her his coat and some money. She also has no idea that she is a rider. It’s up to Stefano to convince Francesca to accept all of him at her own free will, but it’s going to take some time. Sometimes she finds his bossiness and hard tone a bit scary even if she also thinks he is his most attractive at those moments.
Usually during reading a story I always favor one character more than the others but during Shadow Rider I honestly had no favorites because I really liked each and every character. The way Feehan wrote each member of the Ferraro family just worked. They were close and I just really took to how different their personalities were. Stefano was bossy, sexy and had this deadly air around him but he also came off as sweet and charming. Francesca did a great job at holding her ground and gave him sass when he pushed her to do something but I could see her starting to trust him and his word little by little.
Everyone loves a good love scene, but oh man did Feehan bring it with each and every one. They are detailed and last over numerous pages without being too wordy. Now don’t get me wrong during the story there was some repeating when it wasn’t needed but I felt it didn’t take away from the story. Shadow Rider is filled with plenty of action on top of the romance that is blooming and really had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The ending sets up for the next book and already I am stalking Feehan’s website to find out when it will be released and who it will be about. If you haven’t picked up Shadow Rider I would do so today and get to know Stefano and Francesca.
