A man-made virus was released during the Vietnam War killing hundreds of thousands. Scientists created a vaccine to protect what was left of humanity. But there was an unexpected side effect, a mutation altered a percentage of the human race creating Therians. Humans with animal DNA capable of shifting.
Eventually a special elite military force was created to protect all citizens, regular humans and Therians alike. The teams were comprised of a human and a Therian partner matched for every THIRDS team operation.
Human Dexter ‘Dex’ Daley is partnered with team leader jaguar Therian Sloane Brodie in a THIRDS unit. They are also partners, lovers at home. They have made the ultimate commitment. Sloane has Marked Dex as his own.
The last thing Dex remembered was going to bed with Sloane. He wakes up tied to a chair. Somehow he was snatched from his bed and from Sloane. His kidnapper is a charming and deadly wolf Therian who systematically beats and tortures Dex for information about his long dead parents. They supposedly died in an accident, but listening to the Therian convinces Dex that he needs to rethink what he was told.
Meanwhile Sloane and his team are tearing the town apart for information on the kidnapping. Finding Dex alive is all that matters. The kidnapping of Dex sets into motion a chain of events no one saw coming. Peeling back the layers of his parent’s lives Dex and Sloane are faced with truths that will affect them and the future of all human/Therian lovers. No one saw this coming…
Book seven in the popular THIRDS series literally explodes onto the pages in Smoke and Mirrors. This is a taut, deadly tale. Suspense builds as mysteries unfold while Dex and Sloane search for clues in the drama. An incredibly imaginative alternate reality comes to life in Smoke and Mirrors. New readers will definitely struggle at times with the large cast and all the tech jargon, etc. Luckily there is a glossary provided at the beginning. Any stumbling is worth it. Smoke and Mirrors is an extremely satisfying romance with twists and turns galore. Absolutely addicting.
