College student and falconer in training Garrett Nicholson travels with his father Johan to seasonal faires entertaining and educating the public. When they aren’t on the road they are home at The Sky’s the Limit Raptor Rehab Center where Garrett’s mom, a vet runs things.
At the Hawkswood Fantasy Faire outside Ft. Worth the young falconer meets nineteen year old Trevor DePalma. Having recently broken off a long term relationship Garrett is leery of starting anything new, but can’t help his attraction to Trevor.
Offering free help with the raptors Trevor is genuinely interested in both the birds and Garrett. For the first time in a long time someone is treating him like a regular guy rather than something to ignore. He doesn’t know how to tell Garrett that he’s homeless and has been living on the streets for the past two years after his father discovered he was gay and kicked him out. Trevor is well aware that he needs to come clean. If Garrett truly loves him it shouldn’t matter, right?
Sweet, young love is put to the test in The Falconer’s Lure. The plight of gay kids and parental acceptance is honestly showcased in this engaging story. Realistic characters deal with a tough subject while at the same time raptor care is discussed in a fascinating, interesting manner. The Falconer’s Lure deals with a grim subject matter and a burgeoning romance. Comes up a winner.
