Torque by Charley Descoteaux
Published by Samhain Publishing Genres: Contemporary, Menage
On the highway heading to Alaska Mick Randall has one eye on the road ahead and the other looking over his shoulder. With any luck he can outrun his biker family and leave them in the past. Low on cash Mick manages to pick up a job at Bell’s Auto Wrecking outside of Portland. It’s the perfect setup for making some quick money with an old man owner and his taciturn grandson Scotty, his other employee. The only other sign of life around the place is when Mercy Taylor comes around. She seems to be the one person who draws Scotty away from his work.
Mick finds himself attracted to Scotty while at the same time he’s intrigued by Mercy, who’s apparently got her own family issues. Each of the three are dealing with ghosts of the past, both living and long dead. Maybe it’s time to lay them all to rest.
A unique blend of secrets and unresolved issues, Torque manages to shine a light on their darkness. The three main characters are heavily weighed down by the past. Individually they haven’t been able to resolve anything. In Torque it is Mick’s arrival that serves as a catalyst for change. This character driven story convincingly brings them together before the end.
