Asked by Lucian Argeneau to bring her back for questioning, Marcus is determined to carry out Lucian's request—no matter how the seductive little mind-reading vamp feels about it.Basha doesn't mind fighting fire with fire, especially with a hot immortal involved. But if he wants to take her away, he'll have to catch her first . . .
Basha Argeneau has been on the run for the majority of her life and for a vampire full of nanos that’s a really long time. She even raised a son and kept him safe from her family, which Basha believes has an execution order on her. Basha has been hiding with the humans for many years, always changing areas when her lack of growing old might begin to be commented on. For the last while, she has been a fortuneteller in a small family owned traveling carnival.
Marcus Notte has never backed down from a job and always gets the job done. When Lucas Argeneau, the leader of his extended family, asked that Marcus go and see if the fortuneteller that was recently located is actually Basha, a long lost member of the family, Marcus just agreed and took off. From the stories he has heard of this woman they are looking for, she is crazy and needs to be brought in before the humans learn too much.
However, when Marcus finally meets Basha, she is nothing like he believes. Marcus has taken a job at the carnival that will allow him to investigate Basha without her finding out just who and what he is. Basha is very, very suspicious of the new man and the fact he seems to show up where she is. Both are surprised when they can’t read the other’s mind. In their world, the only person you can never read or control with your mind is your mate. Accidents are suddenly surrounding Basha and that has Marcus wondering just who or what is trying to harm the woman he is beginning to fall for. As the answers are coming in, Basha learns the wrong way just who and what Marcus is and she is determined to run yet again but when it’s Marcus’ life on the line she can’t leave him. Marcus has admitted that Basha is not only his mate and now his lover, but that she never knowingly broke their rules and that someone has been pulling a lot of strings for the misunderstandings that have surrounded her for so long. Life should be bright when the true rules breakers are all rounded up and Basha learns the truth about her life, but now comes the hardest part – do they run from Lucas and the family or do they hope to make him understand everything that has happened and give them a chance to live and love within the family?
Mistruths and betrayals come to light when hearts join and love shows the way home to a woman lost for many years in Vampire Most Wanted. Basha and Marcus engage into a cat and mouse game of hide and seek and discover that their love will bring everything into the light and bring Basha back home where she belongs. Basha is one of the canniest women I have ever seen and I loved her straightforward (for her) way of living her life and protecting those she loves. Marcus proved that he was much more than family muscle when he realized that Basha was not like anything he had been told and he then sought to find out just who was behind the threats to her. My heart ached for Basha as the final truths came out, but I knew that Marcus would help her heal the new wounds in her heart and together they would have many years of living, loving and laughing. Vampire Most Wanted is bittersweet in a way and yet full of love and suspense and a joy that will make you smile when the last page is turned.
