Love is the last thing on Jack Harrington's mind when he sets out to meet Andi Walsh's flight. Recently back to work after spending more than a year tending to his comatose wife, Jack is focused on getting through each day and caring for his three daughters. However, the moment he sets eyes on Andrea Walsh, the interior designer who has come to decorate the hotel his company is building in Newport, Rhode Island, Jack begins to wonder if Andi might be his second chance. After a disastrous marriage, Andi, single mom to a hearing-impaired son, isn't exactly looking for love, either, but that's what she finds with Jack. The two embark on a long-distance relationship fraught with challenges as they balance the needs of their children and dueling careers while Jack continues to care for his wife, Clare. Just when Jack thinks his life is once again settled, he is confronted with a new challenge that tests him in ways he never could've imagined, leaving him to wonder if

Jack Harrington’s life is pretty good. He has a beautiful wife and three wonderful daughters. Until one day when it all comes crashing down around him. His wife is hit by a car and left in a coma. With no chance of a recovery, Jack must pick up the pieces of his and his daughter’s lives. So far he hasn’t been the most attentive dad. He’s always worked hard to provide for his family but since the tragedy he’s learned what’s most important—and that’s his girls. Life moves on and Jack struggles to manage work and family. He never expected another opportunity at love to walk into his life but she does.

Andrea Walsh is an interior designer working for the hotel Jack’s company is building. When she comes to Newport for design inspiration, she finds more than she bargained for. The chemistry boils between her and Jack but the complications in both of their lives make it seem impossible for them to have a relationship. Andi isn’t exactly itching to start something. Her ex left her when they discovered their son was deaf. She fears being abandoned by another man but their feelings cannot be contained. They embark on a long distance relationship that soon becomes more than they ever imagined. Is it possible for these two to get a second chance at love?

Wow wow wow…that is my constant thought after finishing Treading Water. I find myself still gripped by the powerful emotions that Marie Force brought forth in Treading Water. Life is full of endless possibilities and Treading Water shines a light on all that can be had if a person is willing to grab it. Jack may be over forty but he proves it’s never too late to change. After his wife’s accident and horrible prognosis he’s forced to change everything he’s ever known. The reevaluation of his life spotlights the areas where he was lacking. The relationships with his daughters become his number one. I love the journey Ms. Force takes the reader on in Treading Water. We get a front row seat to Jack’s personal tragedy and the years that follow.

Ms. Force asks the question, “Is it possible to be sad and happy at the same time?” When Jack meets Andi he is forced to deal with not only his burgeoning feelings for her but the guilt he feels at saying goodbye to the relationship he had with his wife. I adore Andi. She is such a strong woman who walks into this difficult situation with her head held high and good intentions to pave her path. I love that Ms. Force kept surprising me. When I thought something cliché would happen she would throw me a curve ball. Treading Water is a definite must read! Treading Water creates an emotional firestorm within the reader. It shines the light on the good and the bad in life and proves that one moment can change everything and it’s never too late to find love. Marie Force grabbed my heart and squeezed every ounce of emotion out of it but most importantly her monumental story left me blissful. Treading Water may be fiction but it gives me hope; hope in everyday people and happily ever after. I cannot wait for the next book in this trilogy, Marking Time.

He husband fell in love with another woman and is getting ready to have babies with her. Not only must Clare face the changes but she must also face the tragedy that landed her in her hospital bed. Clare did the honorable thing and let her husband go so he could marry his new love but she doesn’t feel so honorable when she returns to what used to be her family’s home. As one daughter goes off to college and another follows her dreams to Nashville, Clare must find a new path for herself in this new life. The path takes her from Newport, Rhode Island to Stowe, Vermont where she discovers a new life and more people to love.

Aidan O’Malley is the go-to guy for home redesign in Stowe, Vermont. Aidan takes one look at Clare and the home she’s remodeling and see’s what he’s been missing in his life. He has led a lonely life since a terrible tragedy scarred him. With Clare’s help he sees that happiness may be possible for him after all but will differing life plans keep them from finding their ever after?

Marie Force has worked her magic once again with Marking Time. I don’t know when I have been so engrossed in a novel. Oh wait, I do know! It was when I read the first in this trilogy Treading Water! I am so enamored by Ms. Force’s characters. I feel like part of the family. My heart breaks for Clare as Marking Time begins. She has been through so much and her peace is out of reach. Everything she had is gone and she must fight to find happiness once again. At times it seems impossible but Clare keeps fighting and I love that about her. Wouldn’t you know Clare would find someone that has pain of his own to contend with?

Clare and Aidan are so sweet and they sizzle together. As much as I love Clare and Aidan, I thoroughly enjoyed Kate’s journey in Nashville as well! For Kate Marking Time is a coming of age story, it’s about the experience of first love and finding what is truly important. At eighteen it would be impossible not to get caught up in everything that is offered to her. I felt her heartbreak and happiness deeply. I loved all the details Ms. Force included about Nashville. Having grown up there it was a nice surprise to read about a city I love. There is one thing that happens toward the end and I totally didn’t see it coming and I about lost my mind. It’s so good I was on pins and needles for the Harrington families. Marking Time is a sensational addition to the Treading Water trilogy it made me laugh and cry and I love it all the more for it. Marking Time is contemporary romance at its best!

Brandon O’Malley found himself at rock bottom after learning that he hurt his brother’s girlfriend while in the midst of an alcohol induced rage. His brother gives him a choice rehab or jail. After rehab, Brandon’s father gives him a restoration job to slowly bring him back into their family business. Brandon has burned many bridges and will have to earn back the trust of the people that love him. Brandon never counted on falling for a spunky five-year old or her mother.

Daphne and her daughter Mike have been on the run from Mike’s grandparents for years. Daphne has finally found a place that feels like home and a person she would like to share her life with. But her fear of what may happen continues to stand in the way of her own happiness. Can Brandon and Daphne find love and comfort in each other’s arms? Will Daphne’s baggage drive Brandon back to the bottle?

Starting Over is the third book in the brilliant Treading Water trilogy from Marie Force. Upon finishing Starting Over I find myself completely overwhelmed by the myriad of emotions that are swirling around me. I must confess that when I started this story I was a bit disappointed that the Harrington family was not going to be front and center. While reading Treading Water and Marking Time I became so attached to all of them I couldn’t imagine how Ms. Force could make me fall in love with a character I barely know and who left a horrid impression on me in Marking Time. Yet she did! Brandon O’Malley is a broken man when Starting Over begins. He’s gotten so lost in his own pain and resentments that he can’t find any happiness. I never thought I would enjoy a story that features a character in rehab but those scenes of Brandon with his therapist were so powerful I had to take a break after reading them. I could feel his pain so deeply I just wanted to give him a hug. I wanted him to see how great life could be if he would let go. Daphne and Mike are the perfect balm for his soul. It is impossible to read Starting Time and not fall in love with little Mike; her heart is so big and she’s such a straight shooter. Daphne and Brandon make beautiful music together! I love this couple so much I can hardly stand it.

One thing I love about Ms. Force’s writing is that it’s unpredictable. Ms. Force keeps things real while putting her characters in situations that unfortunately have negative consequences at times. Starting Over is about much more than romance between Brandon and Daphne; it is literally about Starting Over. Brandon must learn to live in his new reality and heal the fractures he has made within his family. I love that Ms. Force takes the reader not only through the recovery of the alcoholic but also explores what it is like for the people who love the alcoholic. I love Colin’s journey in Starting Over. He has many burdens yet he is the one who tries the hardest to understand his brother’s alcoholism and figure out how to help him. Brandon doesn’t always appreciate Colin’s help but that doesn’t stop him from trying. I am so happy Colin got a little romance in his life as well!

The Treading Water trilogy which features Treading Water, Marking Time and Starting Over will forever hold a special place in my heart. Marie Force takes the reader on an unforgettable journey through the lives of some very passionate and remarkable characters. I will always remember the laughter, the love and the tears that flowed while reading these stories! Ms. Force’s characters are inspired! Even as I sit here a day after finishing Starting Over I have happy tears in my eyes thinking about how this trilogy ended. Hat’s off to you Ms. Force for creating a stunning masterful trilogy that I will be recommending to everyone!
