Scott King swore off rock stardom after his band, King Phoenix, crashed and burned. Now in his forties, Scott lives a quiet life as a music producer and session guitarist. But in a box hidden in his wardrobe lie the relics of the past he left behind-a past filled with drugs, booze, and broken hearts. For sixteen years, Scott has had no contact with his former bandmates, so when he's asked to play at a benefit gig for King Phoenix's old sound man, his world turns upside down. A King Phoenix reunion means a run-in with Scott's ex, Ash Walker-and sixteen years ago, believing Ash wanted to leave the band, Scott OD'd and almost died. Since then, Scott has ruthlessly suppressed his feelings. As a result, he's completely unprepared for the impact of seeing Ash again, or for dealing with his emotions about the band's demise. He definitely didn't expect Ash to want to start up where they left off. Now Scott has to decide between his safe existence and the twenty-year-old love song that could cost him his sobriety-and his heart.

Reflecting on the days when he was a guitarist with King Phoenix is something Scott King managed to avoid for 16 long years. But when word reaches him that a beloved crew member is seriously ill and the band plans on getting together for a tribute to help with his bills, Scott reluctantly acquiesces.

So many memories, good times and bad, circle around lead singer and ex-lover Ash Walker, the only man Scott ever truly gave his heart to.

Looking back Scott remembers that the more successful they became the harder it was to deal with his stage fright and anxieties before they went on.  Scott fell into a world of hard liquor overindulgence and drugs.  Every bit of decent behavior eroded as the drugs took over.  His relationship with Ash had encompassed everything wonderful in life until the next fix mattered more.  Then one night of overcharged emotions and bad judgment tore them apart and destroyed King Phoenix.

Seeing Ash again after all these years, after everything they went through and what happened, Scott isn’t sure he can handle it.  Repeating his self destructive behavior isn’t an option especially when his heart never healed.

A gentle soul with a special gift can’t handle the glory, he crashes and burns in Metal Heart.  Author Meredith Shayne writes an intuitive, insightful look into success and later the ugly side where insecurities and sorrow take control.  The characters draw the reader into the lives of Scott, Ash, and the rest with charm and tenacity.  Metal Heart captivates from the first page to the last and proves that talking things out is the only answer where love is concerned.
