Several things are weighing on Dylan MacLeod’s mind right now. First is his inability after five hundred years to find his dragonmate (I did mention that he is a dragon right?). Second, he’s the King of his race, the Dragonstars, and something is killing his people. Nothing Dylan or his scientist’s have done has had any affect in slowing or stopping this disease. After a death that hits really hard, Dylan makes a choice that shocks his advisers and guards – he is going to the humans to find a scientist who can find the answers.

Bio-chemist Phoebe Quillum has spent her entire adult life finding cures for incurable diseases. Just when she might be on to something, Phoebe gets the worst news possible – her grant money is being discontinued. The timing could not be worse and her time in the lab is now on a countdown. That is until a dark stranger walks in and makes Phoebe an offer that blows her socks off.  Money for her research, a fully stocked lab and help in the research, all for finding a cure to an incurable disease.  Phoebe knows there has to be a catch, but what is it?

They might not get off on the right foot, but Phoebe decides to take the leap after Dylan convinces her there is more out there than humans. Traveling together proves to both Dylan and Phoebe that the instantaneous attraction between them is more than a passing thing. Phoebe gets firsthand knowledge of how fast and horrible the disease is as Dylan loses yet another family member. Determined to find the cause and cure, Phoebe wants to get right to work but the flames between herself and Dylan keep butting in. Phoebe spends her time between lab research and passionate encounters, while Dylan learns that an old enemy is back in the picture. Danger and mistrust spikes just as Phoebe discovers the truth about the problem. When she is kidnapped, Dylan doesn’t care she is a human – Phoebe is his mate and he is willing to destroy a clan to get her back.

Science and myths can make strange but strong bedfellows. Dark Embers brings Dylan and Phoebe together under less than great circumstances only for them to discover they always belonged together. Phoebe’s childhood made her become a biochemist with a reputation of never stopping the hunt. Dylan was never supposed to lead his clan, but a strange and mysterious disease made him a king and is now destroying his clan.  The first meeting between Phoebe and Dylan had me in tears almost I was laughing so hard. Talk about getting off on the wrong foot. The intensity that sprang up immediately between Dylan and Phoebe drew me in fast and would not let go. I honestly did not want to put their story down. The mixture of science and mythical dragon clans in the middle of the desert created a world that was intriguing. The way Dylan and Phoebe struggled with their passion while working together to solve the medical mystery was just one of the threads that wove an incredible story together. Even as Dylan flew to the rescue, it was the real rescue that showed me there was still a lot to this world I had not discovered yet. Dark Embers is just one of those books you need to get comfy before opening as you won’t want to put it down. The erotic passion and dangerous situations holds you first and when you sprinkle in the medical mystery, it equals into an instant favorite.

I can’t wait until the next peek into Dragon Heat world to see which dragon is next to find his mate. And if they’ve found the cure.

After Xandra’s nasty run in with the Arcadian Council of Witches—where she was almost killed and her boyfriend, Declan, was almost framed for it—her plan is to lay low and figure out why its members would torment the people they are supposed to protect. Declan, temperamental and protective warlock that he is, doesn’t feel so reticent. And when violence erupts again, there’s no stopping him from pursuing revenge... When a council member is murdered in a fashion that screams dark magic, Declan claims someone else beat him to it. Xandra doesn’t want to believe he could commit such a brutal act, but she knows he has a dark side—one that his former love interest Tsura understands better than she ever will. With Tsura back in town, Xandra doesn’t know whom to trust. And a killer targeting witches and wizards is still at large...

Xandra Morgan might be a witch from a royal family, but she recently found out that she has had a target on her back since birth from the Arcadian Council of Witches and they are fighting with deadly aim.  Having survived the last attempt, Xandra was hoping for some down time to just be a business owner and to come to terms with her gift, which just opened up and to find a balance with her new boyfriend, Declan, a really fierce and dark warlock.  But it seems like that just isn’t in the cards.

Declan Chumomisto wasn’t happy at first about being soulbound with Xandra, but now that they are a couple and Declan has seen just who and what she really is, he can’t imagine not being with her.  In fact, he wants nothing more than to kill each and every one of the Council which tied them together, without thought or warning, when they were so young.  The only thing really stopping him is Xandra herself, who doesn’t want an out and out war with the Council.  However, it seems someone else might have beaten Declan to the punch.

Xandra is drawn in to a search for a missing little girl who it turns out might have close to the same powers she does.  At the same time her powers are drawing her to the dead bodies of several Council members.  The question is, who is getting past the Council members’ security and killing them in such horrible manner?  Xandra can’t believe that Declan is doing this, even if it seems like he is the only one who could bypass all the levels of security to get to them.  Xandra and Declan team up to solve the murders, even if Xandra can tell that Declan isn’t telling her something.  If that isn’t enough, Xandra gets an emergency call from home about a serious illness that has attacked one of her family members.  It soon becomes clear that everything Xandra and Declan have been working on all have a single person behind them, and that Xandra and her family might be next on the hit list.  Can Declan and Xandra find out who is behind this before they lose anyone else? Or have the spells been cast and all anyone can do is hope to defend?

Xandra and Declan found love as they defeated a Council plot to kill them, now can they keep that love as someone kills the Council, one by one, and targets Xandra and her family?  Flamebound takes Xandra and Declan on their next path to defeat those that are determined to end their relationship before it gets a chance to take hold.  After reading how Xandra and Declan came together and having a firm hate towards the Council for how they meddled, I was still a bit shocked to see how several of them died.  The very viciousness was more than I think even Declan would do, he just wants them punished for what they did.  I really loved watching as Xandra tried to use her powers to save a young girl who was being used for evil purposes.  When it turned out that those purposes actually focused on Xandra and her family with deadly accuracy, I wanted Declan and Xandra to not only find that person but to make them suffer.  When that person behind it all came to be known, I was a bit shocked and would have never picked that person or the reason behind it all.  On top of an excellent plot, I loved watching as Xandra and Declan fell even deeper in love and seemed to understand each other, their individual powers and knew that while their continued path won’t be easy, it will be a passion filled one.

Flamebound is full of deadly suspense and red hot passions with a great twist of clues that kept me guessing until the very last page was turned.  I didn’t want to stop reading from the first chapter until the back cover was closed.  For all that I have said here, and so much that I wanted to say but couldn’t, I Joyfully Recommend Flamebound as a must read and a keeper series.  This is one series that I believe should be read in order because so much happens in each book and it builds upon each book.

As the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter—and a member of Ipswitch’s Royal family—Xandra Morgan should be a witch of incredible power. But things don’t always turn out like you expect… While she hasn’t lived up to her family’s expectations, Xandra has come to terms with her latent magic and made a life for herself in Austin, Texas, running a coffee shop where she makes potions of a non-magical nature. While things aren’t perfect, Xandra is happy—until she runs into powerful warlock Declan Chumomisto. Xandra hasn’t seen Declan in years, and though she’s still overwhelmed by his power, she doesn’t trust him. And when her own powers awaken one night and lead her to the body of a woman in the woods bearing the symbol of Isis—the same one that has marked Xandra since the day she met Declan—she’s filled with a terrible suspicion, soon confirmed: the woman is connected to him. Xandra doesn’t want to believe that Declan is capable of murder, but as the body count mounts, and Xandra’s own powers spiral out of control, she’s not sure she can trust her own instincts…

Life has never been easy for Xandra Morgan; first off she was born with huge expectations only to have them never fulfilled.  As the seventh daughter of the seventh daughter and even blessed by the goddess herself, Xandra knew from the first time she could remember that her family expected her to surpass all of them.  So what was she to do when even the most basic magic was beyond her? Xandra accepted her lot in life and turned her back on that part of her life. Now the owner of the successful coffee shop and bakery, Xandra is at least happy with her new life.  But Xandra’s magic is finally showing itself and it’s not a happy thing, it seems that death and danger are her gifts so far…

Declan Chumomisto is a powerful warlock who always knew that his future or lack of it would depend on Xandra.  Declan has never paid attention to the rules nor let them determine how he lived his life.  He even flaunts his magic and all but announces that witches and warlocks exist around the world by performing his own illusion show and is world renowned for his amazing feats.  Declan has always kept an eye on Xandra since she left and set up in Austin and now is the time for him to approach her again while he is in Austin for a show.  Declan can fill something strange is happening to Xandra and her magic and he knows it’s time for them to meet again and this time face what the circumstances of her birth mean to their lives.

Xandra is less than happy about Declan appearing again just as her life seems to be turning dark and what is going on with her previously nonexistent magic suddenly acting up?  Marks are showing up on Xandra, magical tattoos, just as Xandra is finding murdered women.  No one is thinking Xandra is behind the murders but there is evidence proving that someone who knows her background is behind them.  Xandra isn’t sure where to turn as her mother is still determined to find the key to unlock her magic (if she only knew), her brother is trying to help by trying to shelter her and her attraction to Declan is growing deeper and so hard to ignore.  As the danger comes closer, Xandra finally knows that it’s going to be her magic that will either be able to find the killer or it will be her magic that will end her future.  Xandra and Declan have to overcome their pasts and find a way to combine their powers to defeat a murderer and finally discover just what happened so many years ago to bring them together.

A stormy night, a magical birth and a hidden binding has finally brought two powerful people together only for them to find and hold on to a love that shouldn’t be.  Xandra and Declan discover passion and answers to long held mysteries in Soulbound.  I loved how Xandra had decided to live her life as she wanted, even if it meant turning her back on family and the magical world’s expectations for her, with spunk and humor.  Declan had me as he decided to live his life as he wanted and basically giving the bird to the Council’s rules.  I loved watching the important moments of Xandra’s life and how Declan wondered in and out of it until their last meeting in Austin.  Seeing as Xandra and Declan at first fought against the pull towards each other and then giving in to it kept me wondering what would happen next for them.  The suspense that surrounded them also kept me quickly turning the pages because I just knew the final answers would be hard hitting and boy were they.  I was outraged to learn just what had been done to Declan and Xandra and now I can’t wait to see how they prove nothing will keep them down and watch as they kick a little magical booty.

Soulbound has lots of wonderful dark suspense, erotic passion, lighthearted humor and magic that can make you gasp all bound together in a way that makes it a page-turner.  Joyfully Recommending Soulbound as a must read for lovers of urban fantasy and magic was a no brainer for me.  I already want to re-read this book to see if there were any little clues or bits that I might have missed the first time, besides it will hold me over until the next book appears.
