Lexi Carmichael, a computer specialist with the NSA, has finally agreed to go on a vacation with her best friend, Basia.  Lexi even agreed to let Basia pick where they would go and plan most of the vacation.  So, it’s no surprise to Lexi that she arrives at a resort with lots of annoying people, sun, and other things that really are not Lexi’s idea of a good time.  But Lexi is doing her best to try and have a good time for Basia.

Then Lexi meets two men who will become her next best friends, Elvis and Xavier Zimmerman, two names that Lexi knows from her computer/hacker connections as geniuses.  They can talk to Lexi in a language that she can not only understand, but can relate to: hacking, programming, and computer games.  Things are really looking up, and then Lexi stumbles into a mystery that gains her attention from the Secret Service and others, all because of another clumsy accident she is involved in.  Now, Lexi, Basia, and the twins have to figure out the clues and find whatever it is that everyone is looking for before they have unexpected accidents.

A vacation just beginning to turn into a fun event takes a turn to the dangerous side in No Money Down.  I have long wondered just how Lexi met and became so close to Elvis and Xavier.  I should have known it would involve one of the infamous accidents that Lexi has become known for, at least to me.  I will totally admit to laughing just as she become “closer” to one of them.  Watching just how quickly Lexi and the twins became close friends and a team that could work together foretold what the future would bring.  And through it all was Basia, the only person who can keep Lexi’s feet and head on earth and not just engaged in the ether that computer geniuses live in.  No Money Down shows just how Lexi got together with the Zimmerman twins and became such close friends.  It is a  story filled with classic Lexi Carmichael humor, mishaps, and suspense that always seems to involve one government agency or another.

A mysterious distress call draws the crew of the Hermes to what appears to be an empty, drifting ship. Empty that is, except for the blood and gore-spattered corridors and one lone survivor locked in a holding cell. Drawn to the handsome, traumatized man, the crew's comm officer, Isaac Ozawa, makes Turk his personal responsibility, offering him the kindness and warmth he needs after the horror he experienced. Turk longs for Isaac, a desperate, hopeless ache he knows he'll always carry with him. But Turk harbors dangerous secrets, his brain a military experiment gone wrong. When an amoral, power-hungry admiral kidnaps Isaac and uses him to convince Turk to become the cataclysmic weapon he's hungered for, it will take Turk's strength, the ingenuity of the Hermes crew, the help of the enigmatic Drak'tar, and Isaac's own stubborn will to save them.

JRBestof2

The Hermes comes across what appears to be an abandoned ship and sends in a small team to investigate. Communications officer Isaac Ozawa and the others are horrified to discover the grisly remains of the entire crew and one lone survivor in a lockdown cell. They decide to take their guest, a Corzin warrior called Turk to his overdue meeting on a space station with an officer of the mighty ESTO or Eridani Sector Treaty Organization.

Half crazed from 2 weeks aboard the dead ship Turk is nonetheless drawn to the kindness and curiosity Isaac shows him. Before long the feelings are reciprocated and Isaac is falling for the big, blonde Corzin. Turk worries that the information he carries could prove dangerous to anyone close, but he cannot deny Isaac is the one for him.

On arrival Turk learns that the admiral he trusted is being supplanted by another who does not have the Corzin’s best interests at heart. From that moment on everything begins to go wrong and every aspect of Turk’s life is threatened from his lover to his own homeland. No one will be safe from a power hungry admiral unless Turk’s secrets are set free.

Gravitational Attraction is a suspenseful drama equally balanced with a passionate romance. Exceptional from start to finish, Gravitational Attraction does not disappoint. The characters, from Isaac to Turk, and the rest of the cast play their roles perfectly, each a standout at the right moment. The lovers stand strong, yet show such tenderness at times of crisis they seem alive. Gravitational Attraction is a sci-fi love story that you will want to read again and again. I Joyfully Recommend Gravitational Attraction. I never wanted it to end.

A Lexi Carmichael MysteryItaly might seem like a long way to go to hide after a disastrous date. But when sexy überhacker Slash (no, that's not his real name) asks me to go with him to Rome on an investigation, the timing is sort of perfect. My messed-up love life becomes the least of my worries, though, after the dead body, the near-kidnapping and the discovery of a top secret encrypted file that even I can't hack. With time running out, there's only one thing to do: call in the legendary Zimmerman twins and my best fluent-in-Italian friend, Basia, to crack the code. Now if only someone could help me solve the mystery of whether Slash is flirting, or if all the kissing is just one of those

JRBestof2Lexi Carmichael is a self proclaimed geek girl who is still struggling to find her way in society.  Yet, put her in front of a computer and give her a quest and she is extraordinary and usually finds what she is looking for.  Right now, Lexi is off to Rome with Slash – a mystery man who works for our government but has a very interesting background and is really hot.  This isn’t where Lexi expected to find herself since the night before she had a disastrous date with Slash.  But when Slash appeared in her office and hired her to help clear his uncle, their firm was hired and Lexi was off to Rome.

Slash is a man of many names and so far not one of them is his real one so far as Lexi can tell.  Once she and Slash arrive in Rome they are meet up with a friend of Slash’s who is also one of the Vatican guards.  Lexi and Slash also meet up with his uncle and begin the search for who used his codes to steal from the Vatican.  It takes no time for Lexi to find out who did it. But that is only the beginning of a hunt for answers that place not only Lexi and Slash in danger but also their friends who have come to help untangle a secret code that will prove that what began as a simple hunt for stolen money is really something much, much bigger and people are willing to kill to have it.  During the same time Lexi and Slash are hunting for their answers, simmering attraction between them comes even closer to erupting into passion.  Lexi might be unsure of herself in social and relationship encounters but even she knows that things are heating up between her and Slash.  The question for her is why someone like him would want a girl geek like her?  That almost becomes a moot question when the final answers are revealed and death is waiting to claim the losers.

A spy and a computer geek team up to uncover a secret that will touch the Vatican and change science when revealed in No Place Like Rome.  Lexi and Slash seemed like an unlikely team until they traveled to Rome to clear his uncle from a theft charge.  They find not only a dangerous web of lies and secrets but also find that their attraction is bringing them closer to passion as they untangle the web for answers.  I loved watching as Lexi tries to break an encrypted code but also the mystery of relationships which is more confusing to her than any computer code.  I also enjoyed watching as Slash worked hard to keep all those he counts as friends and loved ones safe, only to find that one person alone could not do it.  It would take a socially inept girl geek with a strong protective streak for her friends to save the day ultimately.  No Place Like Rome is filled with suspense, fun loving geeks, hot spies and an intense attraction that is rising in temperature as the danger gets closer.  I thoroughly love watching Lexi Carmichael grow and this adventure is the best one yet.

As a lover of romantic suspense’s where I can’t figure out the “who done it” fast, I have to Joyfully Recommend No Place Like Rome as a must read.  While it would help with the background to read the entire series in order, you don’t really have to in order to enjoy this adventure.  But I bet you will want to go back and read the other books and novellas after closing the last page.
