The highly anticipated and epic conclusion to the Chasing Red duology

"Red," Caleb whispered. "Do you know how I felt when you left me?"

I looked into his eyes. The emotion I saw in them, the intensity, and the tenderness filled up my throat.

"I felt ruined. Because, Red, every time you break me apart, you put me back together. And I always come out better than before."

"So," he cupped my face, stroking my cheek with his thumb. "Ruin me."

Always Red gives the reader an honest portrayal of the myriad of emotions we struggle with while discovering First Love.

Isabelle Ronin’s Always Red is brimming with poignant scenes that will have you crying one second and cheering the next.  Caleb is the man all women want to fall in love with.  His feelings for Red are intense and the way he expresses them will make you swoon.  At one point I was thinking, “Damn he’s good.”  How can you not fall in love with him?! I did.

Veronica is such a strong character.  She has such a challenging time overcoming her issues but she wants to so bad for herself and Caleb.  I love her boldness.  She does not back down even when people are trying to pin her in a corner.  The scenes between her and Beatrice-Rose, Caleb’s former bestie, and Caleb’s mother are my favorite.  At her age, it’s rare for someone to have the staunch backbone that Red has.  She is the perfect woman for Caleb! He’s a wealthy guy used to getting what he wants.  He needs a woman that will stand up to him and tell him like it is.

Always Red captures your heart and doesn’t let go.  Be prepared for one hell of a story, packed with romance and a bit of treachery.  Always Red is the second book in a duology you must read Chasing Red first. You don’t want to miss a second of this series.

THEY SAID SHE WAS GOING TO BE MY RUIN...
THEN LET HER RUIN ME.

He had everything—wealth, adoration, a brilliant future. Until one chance encounter changed everything.
The moment Caleb Lockhart spotted the mysterious woman in her siren red dress, he couldn't tear his eyes away.
For the first time in his life, he wanted something. Something he knew he could never have.
The unforgettable stranger he dubs RED.

Chasing Red is torturous in a good way.  Author Isabelle Ronin’s Chasing Red is a sexy, angsty romance that leaves the reader begging for more.  Caleb isn’t quite ready for Veronica “Red” Strafford.  She’s a fiery woman that surprises him at every turn especially when she say’s no, which she does a lot.  Red doesn’t know how to take Caleb either.  It’s hard for her to handle his generosity and the wildness of his world.  Caleb allows her to find another piece of herself that she’s kept buried.  Watching both characters grow while learning about each other is fun.  Caleb and Red are two puzzle pieces that slowly find a way to fit together.

Chasing Red is full of multi-dimensional characters, some good and some bad. It’s fun finding out which are good and bad.  Chasing Red is quite addictive with its feisty heroine and fierce hero.   I couldn’t get enough of these two and their endearing romance. The cliffhanger is killer and will have you screaming for more.

DOWNED by Jen FrederickDowned by Jen Frederick
Series: Gridiron #3
Published by Self Published Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Sports

I have to admit after reading Jockblocked, the previous book in the Gridiron series, I was not a fan of JR “Ace” Anderson. Lucy’s best friend turned into a total asshat because Lucy fell for Matty, but that wasn’t all, Ace was with one too many ladies and came off as one of the most selfish characters I think I have ever read about. So when I found out Downed was his story I was really tempted to skip it all together but yet I was curious if he could redeem himself from the shit storm he caused and became in Jockblocked.

Bryant Johnson is the daughter of the Southern U head coach and is well loved not only by the team but her sorority sisters and an all-round good girl. After her sisters suicide she is committed to transforming the womanizers on campus into the respectable boyfriends they should be, and after they are finished, she sets them up to possibly find their true love. Ace happens to be her next project; she has heard how he was at his old school and knows there is a good man under the asshole persona that he puts out, but what Bryant didn’t expect was to fall for him. When her “fixing” is done will she be able to let Ace go?

Ace is new to Southern U and after basically being run out of his old schools football program after sleeping with the coaches daughter, the last thing Ace needs is trouble with his new coach, especially when he is trying to earn the trust of his new team. When he finds out Bryant is the daughter of Coach Johnson he plans to stay away but when she declares them as dating, and finding out her dad is cool with them seeing one another, he finds it hard to stay away from her. What starts off as a causal relationship quickly becomes more as Ace goes all in but can he convince Bryant not only that he is a changed man but that he is the only one for her?

From the beginning of Downed all I could think about was this was the same Ace from Jockblocked. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself but as Downed started to progress I really saw the changes in him and felt Bryant was really doing him some good. Both characters are total opposites and at first I didn’t see how these two would end up together or make it work because they are really that different. Bryant is outgoing, helpful, and popular while Ace is rude, a loner and just wants to play football.

Bryant is a steamroller and right away I took to her character. She doesn’t give Ace the chance to back out and quickly becomes the only friend he has on campus. The more time she spends with him the more his teammates start to come around and interact with him. There were times I couldn’t help but feel bad for Ace when I realized how lonely he actually was. He tries to brush it off making out he isn’t effected that no one wants to hang with him but deep down he’s hurt and isn’t sure how to break the ice with them.

I know I said this earlier but I am so glad I did end up reading Downed, not only did Ace redeem himself but he also became one of my favorite heroes in this series. When Downed started Bryant held pretty much all the power in her hands but once they became intimate the power started to shift and started to leave Bryant a little unsteady. They both have family issues but for different reasons and when Ace and Bryant are left to look deeper at one another and what they have, I thought what really stood out was a special bond that was really growing.

Overall, Downed was a great addition to this series and I was completely satisfied how Jen Frederick took the most unlikeable hero and turned him into one of the most lovable by the end. Downed introduced a whole new set of characters which I did enjoy, but I was glad to see some old favorites make more than one appearance. There wasn’t a hint of whose book will be next, but I am really hoping its Ty, Knox’s twin. If you love the Gridiron series as much as I do trust me you don’t want to miss Downed.

Crazy Pucking Love is the third book in the Taking Shots series and I have to say it is by far my favorite. Megan Davenport made her first appearance in Getting Lucky Number Seven as a teenager living with her aunt after her parents’ death and her brother away at college. She gets in some trouble looking for attention. Now years later it’s time for Megan to start college and it just so happens that she will be attending Boston College with her brother Beckett. Megan is glad to leave where she grew up to have a new a start but one thing that hasn’t changed is her insomnia.

After being left alone at her first college party Megan decides to play darts and it turns out that it is going to change her life at Boston College. After Megan hits a cute guy in the head with a dart she doesn’t expect it to turn into an evening of fun and getting to know each other, but as the night starts to come to an end she wonders if she will ever see Dane again. When he walks her back to her dorm she gives him her number but as the days pass and he doesn’t call, Megan feels like she lost the one person who really understood her.

Dane Kowalski is turning a new leaf after he played a part in almost destroying his best friend’s relationship last year. He has been staying away from women but after meeting Megan he knows nothing can come from it but he can’t stay away, until he finds out that she is the younger sister of his teammate, Beckett. Megan off limits but Dane is enjoying being friends with her. Not only are they in the same class but also he has trouble sleeping. As their friendship grows and feelings start to run deeper Dane knows that he will mess it up but he can’t stay away from the smart, beautiful woman who he has grown to know.

Crazy Pucking Love was your typical New Adult romance with more than one trope that had me hooked. Cindi Madsen brought the right amount of ice time to this sports romance, but what really drew me in was Megan and Dane. They are so different but yet they have a lot in common which I loved. Dane wasn’t my favorite character in the previous book but by the end of Crazy Pucking Love he really did redeem himself and I found myself falling in love with him right alongside Megan. I really loved seeing Megan all grown up from when she was first introduced in this series and she showed more confidence and growth from her teenage self.

Already I love the Taking Shots series and Crazy Pucking Love sealed the deal. There are more characters I can’t wait to read about and I hope Ms. Madsen keeps this series going for a while. The best part of Crazy Pucking Love is that you don’t even have to like or love hockey to enjoy it.

Whitney Porter is officially done with men after her recent heartbreak and is now focusing on her journalism career. She only wants to be taken seriously so when she gets a job as the new sports reporter for her college newspaper to cover the hockey games she is going to go undercover to find out if the team is getting special treatment because they won last year. Whitney first meets Hudson at a party and knows right away he is a player but since she has sworn off men and sex his charms are lost on her until she comes face to face with him in the locker room on the first day of her job. The problem is that there is more to Hudson then what Whitney originally thought and she might just end up heartbroken again but this one will hurt the worst of all.

Hudson Decker is struggling in some classes but in order to keep his scholarship and remain on the hockey team he needs to start studying more. But after a call from his mother he is desperate for a distraction and Whitney is the perfect one. Hudson has never had a problem getting a girl interested in him and he finds Whitney deflecting his advances a challenge, and after all, he never backs down from a challenge. When Hudson’s friends bet him that he can’t get the uptight reporter into bed he’s out to prove them wrong but when Hudson starts developing feelings for Whitney he needs to tell her about the bet and hope he doesn’t lose her forever.

Since this is my first book in the Taking Shots series by Cindi Madsen I wasn’t sure what to expect but I really found myself enjoying Anatomy of a Player. Hudson does come off as a player but at least he is honest and upfront with the girls he beds beforehand. I enjoyed watching him fall for Whitney, even though he didn’t realize it was happening, it was honestly one of the things I really liked most in Anatomy of a Player. When Hudson and Whitney started to really get to know one another they found they had some things in common such as their family life even though they weren’t the same they could relate to one another on that level. Whitney was easy to like and I found her very relatable since I have been in her shoes a time or two.

While I did enjoy Anatomy of a Player I did find the pace on the slow moving side, but once Hudson and Whitney started to build a friendship of sorts it started to pick up a bit. The main characters held my attention and I was really glad this story was done in dual povs. There were a few times I was a little frustrated with their ways of thinking or how they reacted but I had to remind myself that this is a new adult and sometimes that’s just the way it goes.

Anatomy of a Player was a cute and fun read that has me wanting to start book one right away and I believe that has to do with that this is a hockey romance and for some reason I am drawn to them even though I have maybe seen one hockey game in my entire life. The Taking Shots series is being added to TBR list and I think Ms. Madsen is an author to watch out for.
