Would you die for the one you love?
Nixon Abandonato made his choice. And now he has to pay the price. Tracey is the love of his life, but being with him has made her a target of his family's enemies. The only way to keep Trace alive is convince the world she means nothing to him.Trace Rooks has fallen irrevocably in love with the son of her family's sworn rival, and she knows in her bones nothing can tear them apart. Until Nix suddenly pushes her away and into the arms of his best friend... But Trace isn't ready to give up on a future with Nix--and if he won't fight for them, she will.
In the end, a sacrifice must be made. A life for a life. For what better way to cover a multitude of sins than with the blood of a sinner . . .

Elect is the second novel in Rachel Van Dyken’s Eagle Elite series.  The story picks up after the end of the first book Elite.  Thank heavens because I was so not done with Trace and Nixon or the rest of the Elect.

Trace found herself thrown into the complex and confounding world of the Elect in book one.  Now she knows more about herself and the people she loves.  She’s also landed in quite a bit of hot water.  It’s a good thing she has two fine men to pull her out of it.

Nixon is forced to take drastic measures to protect the people he loves.  He often alienates them in the process.  As if he didn’t have enough to worry about, the looks he sees his best friend and right-hand man giving his woman have him on the edge of one hell of a precipice.

Chase is in love with his best friend’s girl.  He’s forced to stay by Trace’s side 24/7.  His honor and duty to Nixon are at war with the intense emotions Trace provokes.  He must decide whether the love of his best friend or Trace is more important. And he must decide quick because it’s likely both are going to get him killed.

A lot of readers are rolling their eyes right now because they hate triangles.  Have no fear this is not your typical triangle.  While both Nixon and Chase are in love with Trace it doesn’t become an adolescent back and forth story.  Trace is not the kind of woman to string men along.  Elect is driven by emotion and circumstance.  It’s freaking hard to get my own feelings about Elect on the page because my heart was pulled in so many directions.

While Elite was told from Trace’s point of view Elect is told from Nixon and Chase’s.  I truly enjoyed this creative format from Ms. Van Dyken.  It gives the reader a clearer look into the psyche of these characters.  It’s easy to see and feel why the characters are so conflicted about their feelings. I highly recommend you read this series in order to enjoy and understand everything going on.

I don’t want to give the major stuff away, but I will say these characters are thrust into some dangerous situations that will leave the reader breathless.

The Eagle Elite series has rapidly become one of my favorites.  This is probably the first series I’ve read that has successfully gotten the feelings of the characters across without including detailed sex scenes.  It’s not a behind closed doors series entirely.  There is sex and it’s powerful without getting very graphic. Rachel Van Dyken gives the reader so much emotion it’s not necessary for the sex to be a focal point.  I was shocked that after two books I am so in love with these characters that I don’t miss the sex.  I know there are plenty of books out there that don’t feature sex, but I was surprised because of the world the characters find themselves in.  This genre is generally known to be rated R.  Well, I can honestly say I never expected to have a detailed conversation about sex in one of my reviews.

Elect is a lust filled novel that will have your toes curling.  Action and romance never looked this good! You will want to snuggle up with the Eagle Elite all night long.  I know I did. I do think I will have to sleep before moving on to book 3, Entice.

Elect is a November Joyfully Recommended Read!

Series: Eagle Elite #1

For Tracey Rooks, life with her grandparents on a Wyoming farm has always been simple. But after her grandmother's death, Tracey is all her grandfather has. So when Eagle Elite University announces its annual scholarship lottery, Tracey jumps at the opportunity to secure their future and enters. She isn't expecting much-but then she wins. And life as she knows it will never be same . . .

The students at Eagle Elite are unlike any she's ever met . . . and they refuse to make things easy for her. There's Nixon, gorgeous, irresistible, and leader of a group that everyone fears: The Elect. Their rules are simple. 1. Do not touch The Elect. 2. Do not look at The Elect. 3. Do not speak to The Elect. No matter how hard she tries to stay away, The Elect are always around her and it isn't long until she finds out the reason why they keep their friends close and their enemies even closer. She just didn't realize she was the enemy -- until it was too late.

Elite is a powerful romance that keeps the reader on the edge of your seat.  Rachel Van Dyken is a new author to me and I’m so excited I finally found her.

I swear I yelled at this book or rather the characters more than ever before.  Ms. Van Dyken yanked me into the Eagle Elite world, made me feel the myriad of emotions her characters endure.  As I finished Elite I felt as if I had run a marathon in record time.  I was exhausted, and I wanted more.  I was so obsessed I turned around and read the next book Elect immediately!

Trace Rooks is a feisty young woman beginning her college career at an exclusive university.  She’s thrust into this strange world and subjected to some awful things.  One of the wonderful things about this book besides the romance are the many converging plots.  As soon as you think you know what this book is going to be about Ms. Van Dyken throws a curve ball.  Many times, I felt my eyes bulge while thinking Holy Sh*t did that really just happen!

Elite is a new adult romance but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s your standard college romance novel.  Elite deals with many adult scenarios.  It’s easy to forget the characters are so young because of how they handle the cards they are dealt.

Nixon Abandonato is an enigma.  It’s hard to tell what is going on in his head but damn he wears Alpha Male with aplomb.  He’s the leader of the mysterious Elect and a complete ass.  The characters are fascinating.  I hate to say much more because I don’t want to give away the exciting secrets within Elite. However, I can tell you that Trace and Nixon set the pages ablaze with their sensual romance and intense banter in Rachel Van Dyken’s Elite! I am thrilled to Joyfully Recommend it for November!

The highly anticipated and epic conclusion to the Chasing Red duology

"Red," Caleb whispered. "Do you know how I felt when you left me?"

I looked into his eyes. The emotion I saw in them, the intensity, and the tenderness filled up my throat.

"I felt ruined. Because, Red, every time you break me apart, you put me back together. And I always come out better than before."

"So," he cupped my face, stroking my cheek with his thumb. "Ruin me."

Always Red gives the reader an honest portrayal of the myriad of emotions we struggle with while discovering First Love.

Isabelle Ronin’s Always Red is brimming with poignant scenes that will have you crying one second and cheering the next.  Caleb is the man all women want to fall in love with.  His feelings for Red are intense and the way he expresses them will make you swoon.  At one point I was thinking, “Damn he’s good.”  How can you not fall in love with him?! I did.

Veronica is such a strong character.  She has such a challenging time overcoming her issues but she wants to so bad for herself and Caleb.  I love her boldness.  She does not back down even when people are trying to pin her in a corner.  The scenes between her and Beatrice-Rose, Caleb’s former bestie, and Caleb’s mother are my favorite.  At her age, it’s rare for someone to have the staunch backbone that Red has.  She is the perfect woman for Caleb! He’s a wealthy guy used to getting what he wants.  He needs a woman that will stand up to him and tell him like it is.

Always Red captures your heart and doesn’t let go.  Be prepared for one hell of a story, packed with romance and a bit of treachery.  Always Red is the second book in a duology you must read Chasing Red first. You don’t want to miss a second of this series.

THEY SAID SHE WAS GOING TO BE MY RUIN...
THEN LET HER RUIN ME.

He had everything—wealth, adoration, a brilliant future. Until one chance encounter changed everything.
The moment Caleb Lockhart spotted the mysterious woman in her siren red dress, he couldn't tear his eyes away.
For the first time in his life, he wanted something. Something he knew he could never have.
The unforgettable stranger he dubs RED.

Chasing Red is torturous in a good way.  Author Isabelle Ronin’s Chasing Red is a sexy, angsty romance that leaves the reader begging for more.  Caleb isn’t quite ready for Veronica “Red” Strafford.  She’s a fiery woman that surprises him at every turn especially when she say’s no, which she does a lot.  Red doesn’t know how to take Caleb either.  It’s hard for her to handle his generosity and the wildness of his world.  Caleb allows her to find another piece of herself that she’s kept buried.  Watching both characters grow while learning about each other is fun.  Caleb and Red are two puzzle pieces that slowly find a way to fit together.

Chasing Red is full of multi-dimensional characters, some good and some bad. It’s fun finding out which are good and bad.  Chasing Red is quite addictive with its feisty heroine and fierce hero.   I couldn’t get enough of these two and their endearing romance. The cliffhanger is killer and will have you screaming for more.

DOWNED by Jen FrederickDowned by Jen Frederick
Series: Gridiron #3
Published by Self Published Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Sports

I have to admit after reading Jockblocked, the previous book in the Gridiron series, I was not a fan of JR “Ace” Anderson. Lucy’s best friend turned into a total asshat because Lucy fell for Matty, but that wasn’t all, Ace was with one too many ladies and came off as one of the most selfish characters I think I have ever read about. So when I found out Downed was his story I was really tempted to skip it all together but yet I was curious if he could redeem himself from the shit storm he caused and became in Jockblocked.

Bryant Johnson is the daughter of the Southern U head coach and is well loved not only by the team but her sorority sisters and an all-round good girl. After her sisters suicide she is committed to transforming the womanizers on campus into the respectable boyfriends they should be, and after they are finished, she sets them up to possibly find their true love. Ace happens to be her next project; she has heard how he was at his old school and knows there is a good man under the asshole persona that he puts out, but what Bryant didn’t expect was to fall for him. When her “fixing” is done will she be able to let Ace go?

Ace is new to Southern U and after basically being run out of his old schools football program after sleeping with the coaches daughter, the last thing Ace needs is trouble with his new coach, especially when he is trying to earn the trust of his new team. When he finds out Bryant is the daughter of Coach Johnson he plans to stay away but when she declares them as dating, and finding out her dad is cool with them seeing one another, he finds it hard to stay away from her. What starts off as a causal relationship quickly becomes more as Ace goes all in but can he convince Bryant not only that he is a changed man but that he is the only one for her?

From the beginning of Downed all I could think about was this was the same Ace from Jockblocked. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself but as Downed started to progress I really saw the changes in him and felt Bryant was really doing him some good. Both characters are total opposites and at first I didn’t see how these two would end up together or make it work because they are really that different. Bryant is outgoing, helpful, and popular while Ace is rude, a loner and just wants to play football.

Bryant is a steamroller and right away I took to her character. She doesn’t give Ace the chance to back out and quickly becomes the only friend he has on campus. The more time she spends with him the more his teammates start to come around and interact with him. There were times I couldn’t help but feel bad for Ace when I realized how lonely he actually was. He tries to brush it off making out he isn’t effected that no one wants to hang with him but deep down he’s hurt and isn’t sure how to break the ice with them.

I know I said this earlier but I am so glad I did end up reading Downed, not only did Ace redeem himself but he also became one of my favorite heroes in this series. When Downed started Bryant held pretty much all the power in her hands but once they became intimate the power started to shift and started to leave Bryant a little unsteady. They both have family issues but for different reasons and when Ace and Bryant are left to look deeper at one another and what they have, I thought what really stood out was a special bond that was really growing.

Overall, Downed was a great addition to this series and I was completely satisfied how Jen Frederick took the most unlikeable hero and turned him into one of the most lovable by the end. Downed introduced a whole new set of characters which I did enjoy, but I was glad to see some old favorites make more than one appearance. There wasn’t a hint of whose book will be next, but I am really hoping its Ty, Knox’s twin. If you love the Gridiron series as much as I do trust me you don’t want to miss Downed.
