Storie Bell left Bloomington, Texas never expecting to return and at that moment in time never wanting to.  Part of the problem is that Storie is a witch, yes a real witch, and she can’t always hide that fact so the residents of Bloomington are beginning to believe that Storie is crazy.  The only good thing about her life in Bloomington was her last night there and a brief encounter with a Reid Malone.

Reid Malone would like nothing better than to shake the dust of Bloomington off his shoes, but circumstances with his father who still lives there has him coming back again and again.  Reid now is a very wealthy man with companies to control, and yet because of a deal his father made which can’t be finalized until a missing part is been located has Reid back one more time and this time to his surprise, Storie is back and moving into the very place he needs to search.

Storie is amazed to see Reid in the bar next door to her new restaurant/bookstore, even if his father owns it.  Even more surprising is the fact he ends up working as her handyman to get them ready for their grand opening.  Storie knows there is something odd about Reid and his reasoning for helping out, but she has worries of her own.  Her powers are on the fritz and it is affecting her in more ways than one.  Reid knows he is being underhanded, even if he is helping out.  The feelings he has for Storie are not helping his situation either.  As the date of the grand opening comes closer and closer, so do Reid and Storie.  But when the truth about what Reid is looking for and why comes to light it all but ends any budding romance between them.  On top of that is a huge piece of her past is given to Storie, one that might make her leave Bloomington for a final time never to return – unless the love between Storie and Reid is enough to fight against an extreme power.

One small town, a bit of magic and a night two people can’t forget all combine with a bang in Deceiving the Witch Next Door.  After seeing the encounter that Storie and Reid had one night, I wasn’t at all surprised that they couldn’t forget it.  I was amused to see how they both wanted to address it when they met again so many years later and yet didn’t.  The fact that they seemed constantly on the edge of combustion every time they were in the room together was also not a surprise.  While I enjoyed the plot of the story, for some reason I could not bring Storie and Reid into the realm of real-life characters, which took away large parts of the attraction for me.  I did enjoy how Storie and Reid, with a little help, fought for their right to learn just where the sparks of their love could take them.  Deceiving the Witch Next Door is filled with magic and passionate sparks just waiting to explode off the pages as each is turned.

Libby works for her coven as their Enchantress – that is a witch who can conjure spells as her gift from the Goddess.  It also means that whenever anything strange or bad happens in their area, Libby is sent out to find out what happened and track down who was behind it so they can be punished.  Right now she has a case where cats are being killed and something about it is strange.  However, Libby is going to find out who is behind it.  Now it seems she has been given some unexpected help from the coven, a mysterious and sexy warlock named Kale.

Kale might be a new ward for the coven but he knows exactly what his job is and he is certainly strong enough to keep Libby safe.  Kale also has his own reasons for being assigned to Libby. What Kale didn’t expect was to enjoy Libby’s sass as much as he did nor did he expect the immediate attraction that hit him hard when they met.

Libby believes that the only reason Kale was assigned to “help” her is because the coven is looking for a reason to get rid of her because of her attitude.  Now she is determined to show Kale just how good she really is at her job and begins to pull out some spells she had been working on but hadn’t really tried much yet.  Kale is very impressed by Libby and he tries to tell her that he isn’t trying to judge her for the coven.  Libby still isn’t sure, especially since he won’t answer her questions about who he is and what he’s doing.  When their investigation proves that there is something much larger going on and it’s directed at one of the largest foundations of the magical community, Libby and Kale are going to need to find a way to trust each other and to accept the passion that has been growing between them.  All the events have led to one night and a major showdown; it’s a do or die situation for Libby, Kale and the entire magical community.  When the morning comes who will have won the night and have the many secrets Kale kept from Libby ended any chance they have at a future together?

Take one sassy and take charge witch and one sexy and fierce warlock, stir well and you have a passion that will rock the magic community for a good long while which was the formula forThe Cat’s Meow.  The instant distrust at the same time as the instant attraction told me right off, this was going to be an interesting book.  Libby and Kale’s personalities were the exact opposites and it seemed so was their magic.  I loved watching as Libby began with an aggressive offense against what she believed Kale was really doing as much as I felt sorry for Kale trying to prove he was a good guy and not out to do anything to her while not being able to answer her many questions.  As the danger became clearer, I could tell that Libby and Kale were becoming much closer even with the trust issue.  I also loved how Libby was being given a chance to become an even more powerful enchantress with Kale’s help.  The night of the final battle, many of the answers became clear, which was both good and bad for Libby and Kale’s relationship.  They might have won the battle but I was so afraid that Kale and Libby had lost their war, but the night wasn’t over yet and I discovered that Kale was the master of many things – including the passion between him and Libby.

The Cat’s Meow was fast paced and a mixture of sass filled comments, a building passion with explosive potential, and a magical suspense – all of which had me wondering what each new page would bring.  I ended up reading this in one sitting (sleep is so overrated) because I just couldn’t wait to see what new thing would be introduced to Libby and Kale.  I had to Joyfully Recommend The Cat’s Meow because of the fulfilling plot line and the fact that the entire book had me smiling and laughing even when I want to shake my head in disgust at something that was going on.  It is a great addition to any magic library – on the lighthearted side – yes, even with the intense suspense, I found.

The deadliest assassin in the empire just got too close to her target… Azurha, a former slave turned deadliest assassin in the empire, has just been offered the ultimate challenge—seduce, then murder the new Emperor. But Titus is not the tyrant his forefathers were, and his radical ideas might be the glimmer of hope the empire needs. Titus Sergius Flavus has yet to master the powerful magic of his ancestors—magic he must wield if he’s to protect his people—but his father’s death has left him no choice. Rule the Deizian Empire and attempt to right his ancestors’ wrongs, or watch her fall to his greedy kin. More than just Titus’ ideas hold Azurha captive. Night after night, he awakens desires she thought lost, and uncovers the magic of her hidden lineage. As her deadline approaches, Azurha is forced to make an impossible decision—complete her job and kill the man she loves, or fail and forfeit both their lives.

After his father’s passing Titus Sergius Flavus becomes the new ruler of the Deizian Empire. There are many in the empire against him and they will do anything to remove him from his new position. Titus wants the best for his Kingdom but he has his doubts since he hasn’t reached his full magic potential. His focus is on his Kingdom until a distraction walks through the palace doors.

Azurha is the empires deadliest assassin and her latest assignment puts her in a role she is not at all comfortable with. She is sent to kill the new ruler but to do so she must enter his Harem. Unfortunately, for this hardened assassin she has a problem completing her mission after spending time with Titus.

Titus and Azurha cannot fight the fire between them. But how will Titus react when he learns Azurha was brought there to kill him? And will Azurha be able to protect him if he kicks her out of his life?

Crista McHugh’s Tangled Web is sinfully delicious! This erotic feast features one fascinating couple and a killer plotline. It’s impossible to turn away from this story after reading the first few pages! They grasp the reader’s attention and the story keeps it throughout this fantastic tale.

Azurha and Titus have phenomenal chemistry! They turn the heat way up in Tangled Web. I love the inner workings of Azurha her character has such depth and I wanted a happy ending for her so badly. Titus is complex as well. He’s a ruler who is not sure he should be ruling but wants the best for his people. His struggle to command his people and understand his feelings for Azurha is compelling. Azurha’s struggle to deal with her opposing feelings is enthralling. Watching her fall in love with Titus is pure story magic!

I find myself intrigued by the inner workings of this world. I have fallen for several of the secondary characters and I cannot wait to see them again in future books. This is the second book of Ms. McHugh’s that I have read and I’m definitely impressed! She weaves her stories together beautifully and Tangled Web is no exception! Tangled Web is a keeper!

Nexi Jones—part witch, part guardian, and wannabe kick-ass warrior—can’t throw a punch or conjure the simplest magic. But that doesn’t stop her from hunting the werewolves who slaughtered her human family. She’ll have her revenge, but only if Kyden, the elite guardian, would get the hell out of her way.Kyden can’t decide if Nexi wants to get herself killed or if she just has no clue what she’s doing. But her father made it clear: keep Nexi safe…or else. Of course, the more Nexi runs toward revenge, the more she needs Kyden’s aid, and as she grows into her power and confidence, so does his desire to protect her. The only problem? She’d rather he dropped dead. But when a vampire paints a bull's-eye on Nexi’s back, she’s hard-pressed to deny Kyden and the help he’s offering. Even if it means getting her revenge will be a little bit harder. At least it will still be as sweet.

Nexi Jones is in a new life after learning what she had always known was a lie.  Nexi was born half a witch and half a guardian and so far is the only one like that known to exist.  Now after being saved by guardians when her adopted family is killed, Nexi has found herself in the Otherworld surrounded by people whose job it is to protect human kind from others who prey on them.  Nexi has to learn the skills to use the powers from both sides of her biology so that she can be the person she was always meant to be.  One of those helping her or alternately making her mad is a sexy guardian named Kyden.

Kyden is one of the elite guardians for the Council who rule the Otherworld.  Part of his job is to help train the younger guardians and now his job is to train Nexi and bring out all the potential that is just simmering within her.  It would be much easier to do if he didn’t also want to get her horizontal on or against any surface that was handy.  There is another problem in that Kyden knows that Nexi is only willing to learn to be a guardian warrior right now so she can revenge her adopted parents’ murders.  Kyden is searching for a way to help Nexi achieve her goals and obtain all the power that is within her without letting her lose herself in the need for revenge.

Nexi and Kyden have been sent on a mission to find out why werewolves are suddenly breaking the rules left and right and have no fear of being brought to the Council’s justice.  During the investigation, Nexi learns that the same werewolves who killed her adopted parents are also behind this madness.  Now she just has to figure out a way to get them cornered and end them.  Much easier said than done as Nexi is also learning that the majority, and also the leader of the werewolves, are honorable people and against killing humans.  While on this mission, Nexi and Kyden’s feelings explode into mind stopping passion.  The mission takes on a more serious nature now that Nexi is a full guardian and both Kyden and Nexi want to protect the other when out.  A trap has been set, but who is it going to catch – the werewolves or the guardians? And just where are Nexi and Kyden and their blooming love going to end up?

Two strong willed people learn about passion, strength and compromise as they battle evil to protect the innocent in Werewolves Be Damned.  I loved how Nexi and Kyden just meshed together so naturally both as lovers and as kicking guardians.  I was worried at first that the anger and need for revenge would blind Nexi to what really mattered, but with Kyden’s love and that of those around her in the Otherworld, she was able to do what needed to be done without losing herself.  I watched as Kyden learned to support Nexi while still fighting with her when it was needed.  The feelings and passion between them all but leapt off the pages from the very beginning until the last page was turned.  This isn’t my first time with Nexi and Kyden, and yet this time there was just so much more in their relationship and the story.  Don’t get me wrong, I loved them the first time around but now I can’t wait to see the next several chapters as their romance blooms and they fight evil together.  Werewolves Be Damned is fast paced and action packed, be it through the passion or the fighting. A page turner that will remain on my e-reader for a long time to come.  Okay, so where is the next one at?
