THE MISTAKE by Elle KennedyThe Mistake by Elle Kennedy
Series: Off-Campus #2
Published by Self Published Genres: New Adult

Elle Kennedy returns readers back to Briar University in the second installment in the Off- Campus series with The Mistake. I can’t say this enough but I am head over heels in love with this series. As soon as I finished reading The Deal, I jumped right into The Mistake and never looked back.

John Logan has it bad for his best friend’s girl, Hannah. Since Garrett and her have been together John has thrown himself into endless hookups. This is junior year at Briar University and it’s almost time for him to step into the role that has been planned out since he was in high school even though he doesn’t want to. One night he decides to go and visit a friend in the dorms only to knock on the wrong door and meet freshman Grace Ivers. After spending some time with her he knows she is cool to hang out with but he doesn’t want a relationship but she was the distraction he needed to get over Hannah. After he makes that careless remark Grace pushes him away. Logan spends the summer calling and texting but when they still go unanswered it’s time to step up the plan of winning Grace back only it’s not going to be as easy as it seems.

After being humiliated with the encounter with Logan, Grace is determined not to make the same mistakes this year. While she is still attracted to him she knows nothing will come from it. But when Logan starts planning to win her back she decides she isn’t going to make it easy and gives him a list to complete for a date. Will Logan complete the list and win Grace over or will he lose her forever?

The Mistake is a funny, sexy and a little emotional read that kept me wanting more. With The Mistake being a New Adult romance I was expecting un-relatable characters that were filled with drama, but I was pleasantly surprised how real the characters felt and while there is some drama it’s not overly done and broken up with humor. Ms. Kennedy is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors with each book I read. Ms. Kennedy’s writing is smooth and she has a talent for writing characters that seem so well put together on the surface but underneath are more complex.

After reading about John Logan in The Deal I couldn’t wait to find out what his story was and I have to say I was a little shocked. He comes off as sexy, funny and of course talented yet his family situation is holding him back from what he really wants but it’s his turn to put his dreams on hold for his family. Grace was sweet and on the shy side but I loved the growth of her character. After the summer that she was apart from Logan I could see the change in her to having more confidence and her calling all the shots for once.

The Mistake has a slowly building romance with lots of laugh out loud moments and great sexual tension. One of the things I loved most about The Mistake was the list that Grace put together. Not only was I surprised that Logan took the time to do them but really put his heart into them even though his friends were gladly giving him a hard time.

While I did enjoy reading The Mistake I didn’t fall head over heels as I did with the other installments in this series but I still liked it all the same. Once again I have to highly not only recommend The Mistake but the entire Off- Campus series. The characters are fun, sexy and witty and Ms. Kennedy did an excellent job on telling each and every story. Already I am looking forward to reading more by Ms. Kennedy in the future and hoping there is more Off- Campus stories to come.

THE DEAL by Elle KennedyThe Deal by Elle Kennedy
Series: Off-Campus #1
Published by Self Published Genres: New Adult

After reading The Score and The Goal by Elle Kennedy I knew that someday soon I would start from the beginning in the Off- Campus series and I am so glad the time came sooner rather than later. To be honest this is my first series by Ms. Kennedy and hands down I am already in love with it. Normally I shy away from New Adult but The Deal was just adorable and had me grinning from ear to ear.

Hannah Wells has a crush on the new transfer student Justin who just so happens to be in her ethics class but there is just one problem; Justin doesn’t know she exists. When the majority of her ethics class receives a c or lower her professor requires those students to retake the test, but Hannah isn’t one of them. After class she drops her books and no one other than the captain of the hockey team, Garrett Graham, helps her pick them up, sneaking a look at her grade. When he asks Hannah to tutor him, she says no because she doesn’t have the time but what she is about to find out is that Garrett is stubborn and won’t give up until she gives in.

Garrett Graham might be the captain of the hockey team and he generally makes good grades but after his recent F on his ethics test he knows not only will he be benched but his GPA will be in jeopardy. After finding out Hannah has gotten an A he sets out to convince her to tutor him for one week just to start. After finding out about her crush on Justin, Garrett has a plan. He proposes that they date so Justin will notice her but Garrett’s plan starts to back fire on him. Before he knows it he’s falling for Hannah, he just hopes he doesn’t mess it up.

The Deal is funny, cute, entertaining and sexy. I liked these two characters in The Score right away but in The Deal I actually fell in love with them. Garrett was smart, funny and relentless in pursing Hannah to tutor him. Hannah had a good head on her shoulders and had a sarcastic side that I really enjoyed. One thing that stood out was that Hannah and Garrett are friends for most of the book before they move into the relationship part. They talk, joke around and really do hit it off. When they both start to have lustful feelings for one another I was like yes finally they are going to be a couple but it isn’t an easy road for them. Both Garrett and Hannah have some dark pasts that they will have to overcome but if they stick together they will make it through it.

I really did love The Deal and was glad I decided to take the time to start from the very beginning. Ms Kennedy is no longer a new author to me but an author I will be keeping my eyes out for. Her stories are funny, romantic and contain characters I couldn’t help but love. I highly recommend picking up The Deal if you haven’t done so yet, trust me you won’t be disappointed.

Alice has lived a very sheltered life in Ohio but is moving to Charleston not only to escape her controlling mother but to experience the life she always wanted. She takes a job as a flight instructor with Boeing teaching pilots about a new aircraft. While not at work she is getting to know her town and experiencing the culture Charleston has to offer. One day while wondering around Alice comes across a flyer for a minor league baseball game and decides to check it out and meets a woman named Dutch who offers her a seat for the home games. She is instantly attracted to the star pitcher who everyone is saying this will be his year to make it to the majors. Upon meeting the sexy Rafe Alice knows he is a player but the more time they spend with one another the harder it gets to keep her attraction to him under control.

Rafe has been waiting for his chance to be in the majors and show the world what he can do. He knows that everyone is saying his big break is coming soon and he believes it but nobody called the one woman who is about to knock him for a loop and test his focus on the game he loves so much. Rafe might be a player but there is something new and refreshing about Alice that has him wanting to know everything about her. When Alice rebuffs his advances more than a few times he doesn’t know what to think but when Rafe finally gets her he knows he isn’t about to let her go.

Anything but Minor is the first book in the Balls in Play series by Kate Stewart and I have to admit I was torn with wanting to read it and passed it over a few times but in the end I am glad I gave Anything but Minor a shot. Right away I adored Alice and her nerd tendencies to google anything and everything and I can’t forget her love for 80’s movies (which we have in common). She was kind hearted and while it wasn’t easy for her to make friends I couldn’t help but love how hard she tried.

Rafe on the other hand was what everyone thought of him, a player but right away I could see Alice was a game changer for him even though at first he was just looking to get laid. Rafe actually took the time to get to know her and spend time with her even if some disaster happened. I liked that he didn’t go running for the hills and always ran to her.

Since I happen to love the sports romance genre, I was curious how much ball time would be incorporated and it turned out to be just enough for me. The focus was more on their growing relationship and how Rafe and Alice would handle the possibility if Rafe were to make it to the majors. The best part of Anything but Minor is that you don’t have to like sports to enjoy this fun, sexy and light hearted read so please don’t let Anything but Minor scare you away because it’s a sports romance.

Anything but Minor did start off a little on slow side with both the romance and the story but it was so worth it and I couldn’t imagine this going any other way. I enjoyed getting a more of an in-depth look at both Alice and Rafe which made me enjoy reading Anything but Minor a whole lot. The dual povs were a plus and only added more appeal to reading this story. Since this was my first book by Ms. Stewart I was a little hesitant but I truly loved it. Anything but Minor had so many laugh out loud moments that had me giggling and a few omg moments. Anything but Minor turned out to be a really great romantic comedy that I will be putting on my re-read list. I knew at 39% that this had to be one of my recommended reads for this year, it was just that good and I am really looking forward to reading more of the Balls in Play series.

Series: Assassin's #9

I can’t believe Face-Off at the Alter is the ninth book in the Assassins series. Ever since I started this series I have looked forward to each and every book and this one was no different. I was wondering whose story would be next so when it was announced that it was going to be Markus and Mekena I was pleasantly surprised Toni Aleo was going to give them a second chance at happily ever after.

To give you a little background on Markus and Mekena if you haven’t read the previous books, they dated in college but then he broke her heart after betraying her. After college Mekena moved to Jacksonville and became a photographer while Markus has been trying to get his break in the NHL. It has been some time since they have seen one another, but with Lucy and Benji’s wedding coming up they will inevitably come face to face with one another again.

Markus Reeves always planned to make it in the NHL but he is unhappy playing for the Assassins farm team down in Florida. He misses his family and friends, not to mention he seems to be stuck in a rut on the ice. When offered the chance to finally show he has what it takes to be the best for the league, he feels this could be his one chance to show the world what he can do. In order to move on he also has to make amends with Mekena, not only for the wedding coming up but also to help get his head back in the game. His love for her hasn’t faded but he didn’t expect after all this time to still feel the same he just hopes now that she can finally forgive him and give them a second chance.

Mekena Preston was hurt by Markus’ betrayal with her sister and after fleeing Nashville she still isn’t over the man who broke her heart. She agreed to be Lucy’s photographer for her big day to Benji and Mekena knows Markus will be there because he is a honorary member of the Sinclair family since he is Jace’s best friend. She isn’t over him but she needs to finally understand what happened between them and why he did what he did. The reason behind the betrayal will be reveled and people will be hurt even more but can their true love withstand what is about to come when it’s just getting started?

Mekena and Markus’ story was touching and I loved how it really blossomed. They both were obviously still in love and miserable without one another so I was really rooting for them to talk about what happened and begin their future. What I didn’t expect was how it happened but I really thought Ms. Aleo did an excellent job taking on the subject matter and showing the stages of not only forgiveness and acceptance but healing and looking toward the future. I have to admit there was more humor than I expected but I was grateful that my eyes didn’t get too swollen from the tears that kept falling.

At times I felt that Face-Off at the Alter was a bit on the long side but then I could see how this story needed so many details because a lot happened. Not only is Mekena dealing with trying to trust Markus again but she is also dealing with some family issues that were caused by that betrayal.

Face-Off at the Alter is a mix of Ms. Aleo’s Assassin series and the Bellevue Bullies series which I just loved. I enjoyed getting to revisit some of my favorite characters. Some of my favorite parts of this book were when the group were all together having a good time since they are truly one big family. But most of all this was a second chance romance that was filled with drama, emotions and a romance that needed a little TLC. Overall, I felt Face-Off at the Alter was a great addition to this series and I’m already looking forward to the next one.

Mitch Trenton is a Navy SEAL who was injured while on the battlefield, and he is determined to get himself back with his team.  Being shipped back stateside for recovery, Mitch is about to meet another physical therapist who has gained a reputation for getting people back on their feet.  Mitch is all set to put in as much hard work as needed to accomplish his goals, but he is struck sideways after meeting his new therapist and the instant attraction that appears.

Paige O’Kelly has worked hard to gain her reputation as a physical therapist and is about to try for the job of her dreams at John Hopkins.  But for now, she has been assigned a new patient who will need her help to be able to walk again unaided, much less go back to active military duty.  When Paige meets Mitch, she is struck by his good looks, cocky attitude, and she automatically says no to his date requests.

As their sessions go on, eventually Mitch wears Paige down and she does agree to a date.  One thing leads to another and Paige realizes that she is attracted to Mitch and, because of their situation, knows she must either end their professional or their personal relationship.  Mitch agrees to a new therapist rather than lose Paige.  But all is not paradise when Mitch pushes his new therapist for approval to be activated back to duty, and Paige’s dream of working at John Hopkins is put at risk by their relationship.  Paige knows she is risking everything when she questions Mitch’s active duty approval by the therapist, but she’d rather lose Mitch than have him hurt or even killed by moving too fast.  It takes serious heart-to-heart talking and airing out all of the hurts and possible betrayals but, in the end, Mitch and Paige learn just what love and trust really mean.

A physical therapist and an injured Navy SEAL will travel the rough and tumble road to true love in SEAL of a Lifetime. I felt for Mitch and how he was single-minded in his goal at getting back to his team.  I also felt for Paige for how she was trying so hard to keep her professional ethics while working with Mitch, and I loved how she finally had him transferred to another person when their relationship turned romantic.  My heart broke for both of them as they were hit by betrayals and rough bumps on achieving their respective professional dreams.  But I really loved how they were able to work through it all and find their way back to each other and their love.  SEALof a Lifetime proves that not all journeys to love are bright and shiny.  Sometimes it’s hard and gritty and full of potholes, but if it really matters, then you can find a way.
