Ivy Beckett has always known about the Guardians and the Wardens—the humans who help keep the humans safe from the darkness with the Guardians.  The males in her family have been Wardens for several generations.  All the families who are Wardens have special gifts.  Ivy’s gift is distant hearing, which is something that Ivy considers a curse, especially when she hears her uncle and cousin being killed.  Now Ivy works hard to help other Wardens escape to safety.  It is a type of underground railroad that has been set up by others in the know about the Guild.  All is good until the night Ivy is placed in danger while trying to help yet another Warden escape harm.

Baen is one of the gargoyle Guardians of the Light.  He has been asleep for centuries until he is awoken by a call—a call that seems to come from Ivy.  Once Baen takes care of the demons, he begins to see that the world has definitely changed since the last time he was awakened.  First off, the Guild no longer exists, the Wardens are being killed, and the really strange fact is that no one knew where the Guardians had been put to sleep.  That last fact meant that no one knew where to go to wake them up when the darkness threatened.

As Baen and Ivy begin to answer his questions, they also begin a search to see if any other Guardians had been awoken.  This search is quickly answered in such a way that again shocks both Ivy and Baen.  With Baen, all but one of the Guardians have been found and awoken and now one of the Guardians is a woman—something that never happened before.  Most shocking is that several of the high demons have been released already, and the Order is determined to bring the other four over.  Ivy and Baen are joined by the other five Guardians and their Wardens only to discover that the last Guardian has been awake the longest of all, and it appears did not try to locate and wake up the others.  There are serious questions and answers going around as all of the Guardians and Wardens, along with the underground, prepare for a final showdown.  By the end of this, either the Guardians of the Light will have once again defeated the darkness or the world will have descended into darkness and horror.

A woman trying to help light win the threat of darkness soon as a special partnership with a Guardian in Hard Breaker.  Ivy was all that a lover and Warden should be for a Guardian, both feisty and determined.  I found Baen was of the same mold as all the Guardians but, like them, he found that love could allow him to bend and let his mate be in danger in order to defeat the darkness. I enjoyed watching as Ivy and Baen found their own forever love.  I loved the final battle, because it showed Ivy that her gift was not a curse, but a special gift.  It was proved once again that when the dust settled, it was love that won the day.  Hard Breaker is a mixture of suspense and humor that had me turning the pages to see what would happen next.  While this is the end of the series, I now know just how well the light won against the darkness and that all I have to do is open up my books to once again watch as each Guardian meets their special Warden and love rules the day.

Wynn Powe is a witch who comes from a really long line of Wardens, who are those humans who connect with the Guardians and work at keeping humans safe from the Order of Eternal Darkness.  Now almost all of the Wardens have either gone missing or have been killed.  Wynn had been worried about her brother, who is a Warden, for a while now, because he has also gone missing.  When she was asked by a couple of newly awakened Guardians and their Wardens to go to Chicago and see if she could find another sleeping Guardian and wake him up, Wynn easily agreed.

Knox is a new Guardian having taken that place of a Guardian who was destroyed by the Order.  While Knox might not have any experience on Earth, he does have all the memories of the Guardian he replaced.  When Knox is suddenly called forth by Wynn, neither of them knows exactly how she called him to her since the stone Gargoyle that should have been there had been destroyed. Knox isn’t sure about what is going on around him, but he quickly learns that things are not good and that everything the previous Guardians had worked for was about to be destroyed by the Order.

Knox and Wynn team up to find out what is being planned at Chicago and to stop at least this cell in Chicago.  As they piece things together, it becomes pretty clear that what the Order has planned is huge and, as the time comes closer to the showdown, Knox and Wynn call in the other Guardians and Wardens to help.  On the night of the showdown, things are going as planned until Wynn discovers just how personal this takedown is going to get.  Now, Wynn is struggling to do what she knows needs to be done and to ignore what her heart is telling her.  A split second decision will either win the night for the Guardians and their Wardens, or it will give the Order their first big win in their plan to bring eternal darkness to this world.

A newly-minted Guardian and a woman who dreams of becoming a Warden team up to defeat a true evil and discover love along the way.  Knox and Wynn get everything they want and more in Hard as a Rock.  Wynn had been told ‘no’ so many times that I was happy to see that she was given the chance to fulfill her family destiny.  Knox came to life with a chip on his shoulder, however, I loved that it didn’t take Wynn long to show him that it needed to go.  Seeing how they went from a testy partnership to a loving couple went hand in hand with the suspense and danger of their mission.  I also loved Wynn’s kooky uncle and how he stepped in to help when needed.  Hard as a Rock takes the suspense of a dangerous situation and teams it up with the discovery of love and throws in just enough lightheartedness to keep things flowing to a heartbreaking and loving ending.

Felicity “Fil” Shaltis is an art restorer always on the outlook for new pieces of art that need help. When her college friend, Ella, asks her to check out a stone statute of a gargoyle in a courtyard in Montreal – she agrees.  Fil has no idea that her simple mission is about to drag her into a new world and an otherworldly fight.  Fil finds the stone Gargoyle but she also finds a man trying to blow it up.  That event isn’t Fil’s biggest shock of the night – that happens when the stone statute comes alive in the figure of a warrior.

Spar is one of the Gargoyle Guardians who fight together to defeat the seven demons of Darkness when they rise from the underworld.  Spar and his brothers have been asleep for many, many years since their last battle. So when he suddenly wakes up sensing danger, he expects one of the seven demons, not a human female and one of the Order’s Nocturnis trying to destroy him.  Spar isn’t about to let anything harm Fil or himself. When the bomb blows, he defeats the bomber, flying them out to safety.  Spar believes that he has defeated the darkness, only to realize that Fil has been marked with a spell that will turn her to the dark side of demons if they can’t remove it in time.

Fil can’t believe just how crazy her life has just turned over night, all because she went to see a statute.  She now has a warrior who thinks he runs the place just because he can turn into a stone Gargoyle. That isn’t all, Spar and Fil soon discover just what the Order of Darkness is up to – that Guild Wards have been killed or are missing and that they are out to destroy the Guardians while they still sleep – just so they can’t be stopped in obtaining their ultimate goal.  Fil and Spar, with the help of others, set out to destroy the local cell before they can go any farther towards their goals.  When the sun comes up after a fierce night of fighting – who will be standing?

An immortal Guardian and a very human art restorer find love while working to defeat a cult out to destroy the world and those who protect it.  Stone Cold Lover not only brings Fil and Spar together but also starts to bring the Guardians back into fighting form to defeat the seven demons of darkness once again.  I was with Fil when she just wanted to get out of that courtyard and forget about the warrior who suddenly appeared.  But I loved watching the sparks fly between Fil and Spar much more as they worked to not only understand what is developing between them, but to end the plot the Order was using to bring total darkness to the world.  I also enjoyed seeing Ella and Kees from Heart Of Stone, helping along the way.  I know who the next person will be to awaken a Guardian. I can’t wait to see just who he is and I know that they will have the help of Ella, Kees, Fil and Spar when needed.  Fil and Spar are now on the job to help defeat the Order and the new threat from the seven demons, all while forging ahead on their journey of passion and love.  Stone Cold Lover takes suspense and a threat of darkness and trumps it with a love that brings an immortal willingly into the mortal world for his human lover.

From bestselling author Christine Warren comes a thrilling new series abouta young woman caught between a rock and a hard place—between gargoyles and demons… Ella Harrow is trying to carve out a normal life for herself. Well, as normal as an art geek with psychic abilities can hope for. As museum docent and gift-shop manager, Ella is able to keep her distance from people—and her powers in check—while surrounding herself with the artifacts she loves. But how on earth is she supposed to act normal when a thousand-year-old statue on the museum’s terrace suddenly comes to life? HEART OF STONE Not your ordinary gargoyle, Kees has been asleep for eons, waiting for a portent of evil to wake him from his slumber. Kees isn’t a vision; he’s a bat-winged guardian created to protect the world from the seven demons of the Dark. Somehow, Ella triggered his reawakening. Maybe the demons have been unleashed? Maybe his heart is finally ready to be chiseled open? The fate of the world isn’t carved in stone… yet. “Warren takes readers for a wild ride.”—Night Owl Romance (on The Others series)

Ella Harrow finally has a life that she is mostly happy with – that of a museum docent and the gift shop manger.  One of the bad parts of her jobs has to be attending museum functions and fundraisers.  Ella has always had psychic abilities and being around people is extremely hard on her for this reason – even though Ella has worked hard at supressing those abilities.  Lately one of the top patrons of the museum has made Ella very uncomfortable and her unease was proven correct when he tried to assault her the night just after a fundraiser.  Only Ella’s abilities and help from a very shocking place helped keep Ella safe.

Kees is an ancient gargoyle Guardian who has been sleeping in his stone body for centuries.  That is until he was awakened by Ella’s attack with the need to protect her.  After Kees makes her attacker leave, he is confused on just why or how he was awoken and questioning Ella seems to be his only way to find out.  What Kees actually finds is that Ella is much more than just a cute mortal woman – she is actually a gifted and untrained Warden.  Why hasn’t the Guild found Ella and trained her? These questions disturb Kees because it seems so wrong to him.

Ella and Kees begin to research the Guild and what has been going on during the many, many years he and the other Guardians have been asleep.  What they uncover deeply troubles Kees. If the Demons the Guardians were created to protect against have been allowed and welcomed into the Earth plane makes him worry about the fate of the world as a whole.  Ella, even as a geek, has trouble believing everything that Kees tells her about Wardens, Guardians, and Demons and how he is beginning to believe how she fits into everything.  That all goes away when Kees and Ella finally discover a Warden and learn exactly what has happened – it’s now a battle to awake all the Guardians to make sure that Demons are never allowed to run free on Earth.  While researching the Guild’s past several centuries, Kees is also trying to understand his intense attraction to Ella.  Ella has no difficulty in acknowledging that Kees is her one and only love and she will battle anything she has to in order to have his love forever – even help him find and awaken the rest of the sleeping Guardians.  With all they have learned, Kees goes back to an ancient legend on how to awaken the sleeping Guardians – they can be awakened when the woman of power who will love them is in deadly danger even if they and the women have never met.  Kees and Ella’s adventures are just beginning – both in love and to gather the needed forces to battle the darkness that is coming.

A museum docent who has always been drawn to a stone gargoyle soon learns that the stone façade is nothing to the actual man/Gargoyle who it becomes and their love.  Heart of Stone shows Kees and Ella that love can appear instantly.  I was almost as shocked as Ella was when Kees just appeared and knocked her assailant sideways.  I loved how Kees was determined to locate the danger that is circling around the world.  I also loved how Ella was skeptical at first and then jumped in with both feet to not only help Kees but to learn just what her gifts really were and how to control them.  The battle that Kees and Ella win is just the beginning of what I believe will be a war that should not be missed – just as the story of Ella and Kees discovering each should not be missed.  Heart of Stone combines the best of paranormal romance – suspense, unworldly creatures and someone wanting to rule the world all being brought down by the power of two individuals in love.  I am now waiting until the next book in Ms. Warren’s Gargoyle series because I just have to know how Fil discovers her Guardian and just what their journey will be.
