Archangel's Prophecy by Nalini Singh
Series: Guild Hunter #11
Published by Berkley Publishing Group Genres: Paranormal
Return to New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s darkly passionate Guild Hunter world, where human-turned-angel Elena Deveraux, consort to Archangel Raphael, is thrust center stage into an eons-old prophecy…
Midnight and dawn, Elena’s wings are unique among angelkind—and now they are failing. The first mortal to be turned into an immortal in angelic memory, she’s regressing. Becoming more and more human. Easier to hurt. Easier to kill.
Elena and Raphael must unearth the reason for the regression before Elena falls out of the sky. Yet even as they fight a furious battle for Elena’s very survival, violent forces are gathering across the world. In China, the Archangel Favashi is showing the first signs of madness. In New York, a mysterious sinkhole filled with lava swallows a man whole. In Africa, torrential monsoon rains flood rolling deserts. And in Elena’s mind whispers a haunting voice that isn’t her own.
This time, survival may not be possible…not even for the consort of an archangel.
The last few years have been good ones, with the Cascade on some sort of pause. It’s been business as usual for both Elena and Raphael, but it’s been like looking constantly over your shoulder for the next shoe to drop. And drop it did, when Elena’s brother-in-law was attacked and left for dead in his home, and threats were left for Elena’s sister and niece. To say Elena was in the hunt didn’t quite cover it. Like that wasn’t enough to shake things up, the Cascade just roared forward again and it’s nastier than ever.
As Elena continues her hunt for who almost killed her brother-in-law and to protect her sister and niece, she finds that the attack is part of a series of killings. The question is who is behind them and why. At the same time the Cascade has attacked not only New York, but also Africa and something crazy is going on in China. So Raphael and Elena are working overtime to figure out what is going on. Now you would think that would be more than enough, but no – another strange thing is Elena seems to be regressing and becoming more and more human again. Plus there is a voice telling her she is part of a prophecy and one will have to die so the other can live. So who has to die and who is going to live?
As the days go by the answers to who is behind the killings and brutal attack are beginning to point to someone that will hurt Elena to bring down. And each day she is getting weaker and her wings are being threatened. Everyone knows her day and night wings might be at risk with everything the voice is saying. Raphael is trying to move heaven and earth to find the answers to save Elena, but everyone is coming up empty. It’s becoming a race to see if Elena will capture the killer before she goes down herself. When all the answers are known, will everyone come out safely on the other side, or will New York be rocked harder than ever before?
Love can conquer all they say, but is it stronger than the oldest and most famous seer in history? I know that whenever I open a book featuring Elena and Raphael the action will be fierce and the love even hotter. Archangel’s Prophecy was no exception. I loved the hunt to find and end the threat to Elena’s sister and niece. I have to admit that I never expected who it turned out to be. I also lost it several times as Elena was so affected by the Cascade and prophecy. I saw the true love between Raphael and his consort as the pages became fewer and fewer. I have to say that the ending was very bittersweet for me and I had to re-read the last couple of chapters several times because I thought a hard rule for me in romance had been broken. I will also tell you that there is one hell of a cliffhanger. If you don’t handle those well, you might want to wait until the next book comes out and read them back to back. Over all, Archangel’s Prophecy is another excellent example of Ms. Singh’s storytelling. It will challenge all of your emotions before you are finished. I can promise you this.
