Jo has always known that she is different. As a child her whole existence was to protect her brother Thad, before she was forced to leave him for his own good. When she finds herself in New Orleans she can barely contain her excitement. She is sure that there are people like her all around her. So when she meets the dark fey Ruin she is over the moon. Ruin is on a mission to find the Valkyrie Nix and take her head. But Nix has plans and draws Jo’s brother Thad into the mix, something that Jo cannot forgive. This has Ruin and Jo teaming up to hunt down Nix. While they are on the hunt they begin to fall in love but can their newly found happiness withstand Ruin’s lifestyle?
I fell in love with Jo as soon as I began reading Sweet Ruin but I have to admit it took me awhile to warm up to Ruin. Calling him a manwhore is an insult to manwhores everywhere. He barters sex for information and doesn’t appear to like females very much. As I read more of the book and came to know his story, I realized why he did the things he did and wanted him to have a happy ending with Jo.
Jo has no idea exactly what she is but she uses her powers to help others (and maybe for a little larceny). She’s been lonely for a long time. I was so happy for her when she and Ruin found each other.
Kresley Cole has delivered another winner in the Immortals After Dark series and I couldn’t be more ecstatic! Although I always enjoy Kresley Cole’s Immortals, the last few books didn’t make me fall in love like A Hunger Like No Other and I missed it! But Sweet Ruin made me fall in love all over again. Welcome back to the world of the Immortals After Dark!
