Honor Cambridge has gone to a war torn province in order to give medical aid and relief to the people who need it so badly.  In doing so, she has put herself in danger and there is a price on her head by none other than Maksimov, an uber bad guy who wants to make Honor suffer because of her family.  When Honor’s medical facility is bombed by ANE and she is able to translate that the terrorists are looking for her ‘dead’ body, she knows she has got to somehow get to the border and safety.  Hurt and alone, she does her best to blend into her surroundings, but it’s a no go.  She is recognized and without the help of her rescuer Hancock, she would be a sitting dead duck.

Hancock has more than rescue on his mind when he takes the job of finding and turning Honor Cambridge over to Maksimov. He is getting closer to taking Maksimov out and refuses to let anything stop him from reaching this goal…even if he has to turn over the only woman who makes him stop and think about forever.

Hancock and Honor play a game of cat and mouse that ultimately leads to a stolen night together.  Heartache, betrayal, and a lot of soul searching lead them back to each other and I was thrilled.

Anyone who has read the last few installments of Ms.Banks KGI series should be familiar with Hancock.  He is the man we love to hate – the man who is sitting on the fence.  Is he evil or a good guy? No one knows, but let me tell you, this girl was really apprehensive about reading his story.  He made me crazy in previous installments and I just couldn’t figure him out.  Evidently I was not as smart as Honor Cambridge because it took until the very end for me to stop being angry with him, but I am now happy to say that I kinda like him.  So to me, Darkest Before Dawn is a winner! I can’t wait for the next story.

Nathan is being held captive and is in agony. His saving grace is the voice of an angel who eases his pain and helps him regain enough strength to escape. When he does, she leaves him with a void that he can barely stand. When he escapes and returns to the KGI, he hears her again-now she needs him.Her name is Shae, and she's on the run with her sister. A government group wants to harness their abilities to heal. The KGI wants to help- but can Nathan quiet his soulmate's doubts and convince her that they are meant to face these dangers together?

Nathan Kelly is about to give up when an angel whispers in his mind. At first he believes the hours of torture have finally cracked him, but the woman soothing his aches and pain from afar slowly makes him a believer in higher power. He knows his time may be short among these Afghani terrorists. If he can get a message to his brothers he knows they will save him.

Shea Peterson doesn’t know where her special ability to connect with other’s minds comes from. It is something she was taught to hide from a very young age. She and her family have been hunted for as long as she can remember. When she connects with Nathan and feels his immense pain she is determined to do what she can to help him. A bond that cannot be broken forms between the two lost souls.

Nathan may be saved but the danger isn’t over. He knows Shea is out there somewhere running for her life and he needs to get to her before it’s too late. Can Nathan save the woman who kept him alive by Whispers in the Dark?

Whispers in the Dark is a deeply emotional, highly satisfying edge of your seat read! I could not get enough of this take charge story. From the very first page I was mesmerized by Nathan’s stark situation and his fascinating connection with Shea. Before reading Whispers in the Dark I would never have believed that the hero and heroine of a story could form such a deep and magical connection via the mind before actually meeting and that I would like it much less love it. The conversations between Nathan and Shea are much more intimate than anything I’ve read. Ms. Banks characters cut through all the bull and get right to the nitty gritty which turns Whispers in the Dark into a compelling and cutting-edge romance.

Whispers in the Dark takes the KGI series into a bit of a different direction with its addition of telepathic characters. I’m a huge fan of everything paranormal and science fiction so this doesn’t bother me but everyone may not enjoy it. I must say that Shea’s ability makes this story amazing. The paths that it takes the Kelly brothers and their KGI associates down are enthralling. Who doesn’t love a conspiracy theory? I love that the mystery surrounding Shea and her sister Grace’s abilities will continue at least into the next book if not further.

Maya Banks can do no wrong with her Kelly brothers, Whispers in the Dark is perfect!

Rachel Kelly has come a long way since her plight with her husband Ethan in The Darkest Hour.  Rachel has done a lot of healing and is finally having a semblance of a normal life with her hero husband, Ethan.  They are moving into the Kelly compound and she can shed the last remnants of her haunting past and move forward.  Unfortunately, circumstances beyond her control land her back in the line of fire. Will Ethan be able to save her again?

Softly at Sunrise is a beautiful novella. It gives fans of the KGI series a glimpse into the current life of the couple that started it all Rachel and Ethan.  These two definitely left their mark on readers of The Darkest Hour.  They made us fall in love with the Kelly’s and have kept us running to the book stores to buy each book that comes out.

I think Softly at Sunrise is a great way to extend Rachel and Ethan’s story.  These two suffered so much we all knew it was going to take them awhile to heal.  It’s great seeing where they are now and where they are headed.  There was just enough excitement to keep things spicy.  I would be happy to revisit these two anytime!
