Lexi Carmichael is still recovering from her last job in Rome, but all this time off is driving her up the wall. Being at home is giving her way too much time to think about her love life and the two men in it.  So Lexi takes the solution that any geek genius would, she bribes her boss to let her come back to work again just in time to be hired by a producer in Hollywood.  It seems that his company is doing a reality show on geeks dating and someone is hacking into the servers thereby tainting the voting results.

Lexi hates the concept of the show and the way it’s being run but she hates even more is that a hacker is interfering with the results.  Lexi gets right to work on figuring out just who is behind the vote tampering and soon learns that not all of the contestants are who they say they are.  As Lexi becomes more knowledgeable about the show, the people working it and the contestants, she soon becomes much more involved in the show than she ever wanted or expected. Lexi must not only find the hacker before the show is brought down but also prove that geeks deserve love too.  While working on the second part of that challenge, one of the men she is romantically involved with shows up to help her out.  Lexi knows deduces who’s behind the hack, now she just has to prove it in a way that will solve the problem.  By the time Lexi leaves Hollywood, she becomes the geek who comes away with a love that makes her toes tingle and has safely completed another job successfully.

Take one girl geek, throw in a bit of Hollywood magic and computer genius and you have an idea of the issues involved in No Biz Like Showbiz.  For being a girl geek with the normal social issues that brings, Lexi sure can make things happen and has captured the heart of one handsome and sexy geek. I love how Lexi doesn’t see herself as others do but can get to the bottom almost any problem that has to do with computers and analytical thinking.  This time she not only saves a television show but shows a hacker the true ends and outs as well as the responsibilities of hacking and found the time to gain a boyfriend that can curl her toes with his kisses.  I really enjoy watching Lexi work her way through a mystery and save the day while struggling to understand the mysterious ways of being social. I can’t wait to see the next mystery that comes Lexi’s way and her progress with the new official boyfriend in her life.  No Biz Like Showbiz is full of humor, a touch of suspense and one heck of a genius geek showing just how things are done.

A Geek's Worst Nightmare: Going Back to High School

Returning to high school is not something I ever wanted to do over—it was awful the first time around. So why do I have to go back as part of a new undercover assignment? Because the universe loves playing jokes on me, obviously.

I've been ordered to go all 21 Jump Street and track down the students who are breaking into the computer system, changing grades, and causing all kinds of havoc. Although I'm not thrilled about my new gig, at least it gives me something to do other than worry over the fact that I now have a boyfriend. And no freaking idea what to get him for Christmas.

Or it did give me something else to worry about, until I stumbled across a more sinister threat. I was shocked to find distinct traces of a group of international hackers inside the network. Why would dangerous cyber mercenaries be interested in a high school in the middle of Washington, D.C.? What exactly have I gotten myself into?

Lexi Carmichael has a new assignment, and it will involve reliving a dreaded time of her childhood—high school.  After all, as a smart female geek, Lexi had no social skills or friends the entire time unless you count her computer.  Life really didn’t get enjoyable until Lexi entered into college.  Now, in order to track down the students who have grouped together to hack into the school’s systems, Lexi is going undercover as a high school student.  If that isn’t enough to stress out a person, Christmas is almost here, and Lexi needs to figure out how to get through it with a new, and first time ever, boyfriend.

On her first day at the school, Lexi is shown that nothing has changed, and she ends up sided with the geeks in the school.  This might be a break in Lexi’s investigation, but these students are beyond intelligent, and she will need to keep on her toes to find out who is behind the hacks.  As Lexi explores the school system, and everyone who has any form of access to it, she discovers things that bring up more questions.  Lexi calls in one of her best friends, Elvis, to help her check out a few things. What they discover is a group of international hackers who have invaded the school. Lexi and Elvis now have to use their top skills and computer knowledge to save the students and teachers.  Lexi knows that if she can just find a way to reach out online, her boyfriend, Slash, will be there to help.  High school was never fun for Lexi, but now it’s the ultimate test of wits and skills where the wrong answer could lead to several deaths.

As a teen, high school always felt like a death sentence, but now for one high profile school, it really could be.  Lexi, Elvis, Slash, and a few very special students all face the ultimate test in No Test for the Wicked.  I’m with Lexi. High school should never have to be repeated for anyone, however, I could see that her going undercover was really the best way to find the answers the school was working for.  The pages that were filled with the drama of bringing down the international hackers had me enthralled.  From then on, I didn’t put down the book until I turned the last page.  I just had to know what would happen next and what the outcome would be.  It’s hard to grow up, even once you’re an adult, and I just wanted to give Lexi a hug as life was forcing a new stage in her life.  The best thing of all was seeing that Lexi figured out her Christmas gift to Slash and that their relationship was stronger than ever after this adventure.

I have loved the entire Lexi Carmichael series, but this one bounced up to one of my top favorites for the intense plotline. I can’t wait to re-read this story, and I have wanted to since I closed the last page. Yes, you guessed it, I Joyfully Recommend No Test for the Wicked as a page-turner that will never leave your e-reader and will be re-read many times.
