The Archangel war is over and now it’s up to the surviving Archangel’s and their people to take care of the remaining reborn and the disease that has been left in the aftermath.  The worst of which is in Africa, the home of the new Archangel of Africa – Titus.  Titus is a man who expects those both in his command and those loaned to him to do what is needed to be done and just deal with it.  To the soldiers his way of commanding can seem harsh and plain spoken, but it’s not like he is not asking anyone to do anything more than he is right now.  However, when he asks the Cadre for more help he gets an answer he wasn’t expecting – the Hummingbird.

Lady Sharine, also known lovingly as the Hummingbird, is just now coming out of centuries of time where she barely functioned due to a horrible prank pulled on her by an Archangel she was in a relationship with – Aegaeon.  When Sharine was asked by the Cadre to take over Lumia, a place of Angel arts and history, she not only accepted the job but came out of her self imposed kaleidoscope of life.  Now she is being asked to go to Titus and help him save Africa from the disease still attacking it.

Titus has no idea what to expect when Sharine arrives but it certainly isn’t the small woman who not only won’t take being put on a shelf and pampered by him and his court but demands to help with the problems.  Both Sharine and Titus are surprised as she remembers aspects of herself that were always there but life experiences had caused her to not use and started to help turn the tide in Titus’ efforts to clear Africa.  As Titus and Sharine follow the clues they discover as they travel Africa, it becomes clear that the diseased reborn was not all that was left behind.  Now it’s a race to see if they can find the cure to save humankind, Vampires and Angels from this new aspect of the disease before it’s too late.  Of course falling in love isn’t on either “to do” lists, but sometimes the fates have the final say.

When you have a rough and tough Archangel and an ancient angel whom most believe must be treated with kid gloves thrown together, the outcome is remarkable to say the least.  I know that this story was about the Archangel, but to me it was Sharine’s story with Titus as her fitting partner.  I loved learning more about both Titus and Sharine, but I admit I was rooting for Sharine the entire way.  I really enjoyed watching as Titus and Sharine fell in love while battling the reborn and the aftermath of the version of the disease that was let loose in Africa.  When the cure was revealed, I was shocked at what it was but it fit so perfectly once I thought about it.  I also admit to hoping that Aegaeon gets more karma after learning just why Sharine lived in her kaleidoscope for so long.  The very best thing was watching Sharine learn to use her gifts and strength and learning that Titus is an Archangel with a marshmallow inside for the woman he loves.  Archangel’s Sun takes you on an emotional journey in so many ways that I could not even begin to list them all, but the journey is well worth traveling.  Titus and Sharine’s story is also Joyfully Recommended from me as a must read if you have been following this story line.

The world is no longer as we know if after all known conveniences and governments were destroyed after the world was bombarded by the Flares.  Now things are run by corporations and its a serious divide of the haves and the have nots.  Another thing that these corporations have done is mess with humans, with technology, and new science.  As such not everyone is what or who you think they are.  It’s in this world that Nina and her roommates (and best friends) are living in.

Nina is an information broker who uses anything and everything she can lay her hands on to help the helpless in an America that barely struggles along.  Nina and her roommates are know as mercenary librarians and they are as deadly as that sounds, if needed to be.  When Nina is approached with job that could possibly get them access to part of the Rogue Library of Congress she agrees to the job as that knowledge would be priceless to obtain.

Garrett Knox, known as Knox, is the Captain of the Sun Devils, he is trying to pull his team out of the job of taking care of anyone TechCorps wants to be disciplined in some way.  The major problem with this is that once your are part of these teams, the only way to leave is death.  Another is that the teams have been biologically changed and the medication they need to keep them alive is strictly produced and protected by TechCorps.  The team is basically on a countdown towards their own death unless they can get access to this medication.

Knox has one way to get the access he needs to this life saving medication and it involves turning Nina over to someone he doesn’t know.  Getting Nina to agree to the job was one thing, but as he gets to know her better, Knox knows he can’t do it. Nina and Knox are becoming involved but both have secrets they’re keeping from the other.  Just when they both are ready to tell the other the first of their secrets, the group is ambushed by the person who wants Nina.  It’s going to take trust in several areas if everyone is going to come out alive at the end.

When the world has been shaken upside down and only partially put back together, Nina and Knox find each other but only their smarts, fast actions and trust will allow them to find a future together.  I was fascinated by this new world that Kit Rocha provided.  At first I did not see how Nina and Knox could ever overcome all that was between them to get together.  But the twists, turns and a few OMG surprises showed me that not only could they become a couple but that they could continue to help the helpless and prevent the corporations from destroying what was left of civilization.  I seriously can’t wait for the next mercenary librarians book. There were so many loose threads that were left dangling.  Deal with the Devil has many surprises and just learning about this new world had me engaged from the first page and then Nina and Knox pulled me along as their story rolled out.

Would you die for the one you love?
Nixon Abandonato made his choice. And now he has to pay the price. Tracey is the love of his life, but being with him has made her a target of his family's enemies. The only way to keep Trace alive is convince the world she means nothing to him.Trace Rooks has fallen irrevocably in love with the son of her family's sworn rival, and she knows in her bones nothing can tear them apart. Until Nix suddenly pushes her away and into the arms of his best friend... But Trace isn't ready to give up on a future with Nix--and if he won't fight for them, she will.

In the end, a sacrifice must be made. A life for a life. For what better way to cover a multitude of sins than with the blood of a sinner . . .

Elect is the second novel in Rachel Van Dyken’s Eagle Elite series.  The story picks up after the end of the first book Elite.  Thank heavens because I was so not done with Trace and Nixon or the rest of the Elect.

Trace found herself thrown into the complex and confounding world of the Elect in book one.  Now she knows more about herself and the people she loves.  She’s also landed in quite a bit of hot water.  It’s a good thing she has two fine men to pull her out of it.

Nixon is forced to take drastic measures to protect the people he loves.  He often alienates them in the process.  As if he didn’t have enough to worry about, the looks he sees his best friend and right-hand man giving his woman have him on the edge of one hell of a precipice.

Chase is in love with his best friend’s girl.  He’s forced to stay by Trace’s side 24/7.  His honor and duty to Nixon are at war with the intense emotions Trace provokes.  He must decide whether the love of his best friend or Trace is more important. And he must decide quick because it’s likely both are going to get him killed.

A lot of readers are rolling their eyes right now because they hate triangles.  Have no fear this is not your typical triangle.  While both Nixon and Chase are in love with Trace it doesn’t become an adolescent back and forth story.  Trace is not the kind of woman to string men along.  Elect is driven by emotion and circumstance.  It’s freaking hard to get my own feelings about Elect on the page because my heart was pulled in so many directions.

While Elite was told from Trace’s point of view Elect is told from Nixon and Chase’s.  I truly enjoyed this creative format from Ms. Van Dyken.  It gives the reader a clearer look into the psyche of these characters.  It’s easy to see and feel why the characters are so conflicted about their feelings. I highly recommend you read this series in order to enjoy and understand everything going on.

I don’t want to give the major stuff away, but I will say these characters are thrust into some dangerous situations that will leave the reader breathless.

The Eagle Elite series has rapidly become one of my favorites.  This is probably the first series I’ve read that has successfully gotten the feelings of the characters across without including detailed sex scenes.  It’s not a behind closed doors series entirely.  There is sex and it’s powerful without getting very graphic. Rachel Van Dyken gives the reader so much emotion it’s not necessary for the sex to be a focal point.  I was shocked that after two books I am so in love with these characters that I don’t miss the sex.  I know there are plenty of books out there that don’t feature sex, but I was surprised because of the world the characters find themselves in.  This genre is generally known to be rated R.  Well, I can honestly say I never expected to have a detailed conversation about sex in one of my reviews.

Elect is a lust filled novel that will have your toes curling.  Action and romance never looked this good! You will want to snuggle up with the Eagle Elite all night long.  I know I did. I do think I will have to sleep before moving on to book 3, Entice.

Elect is a November Joyfully Recommended Read!

For Tracey Rooks, life with her grandparents on a Wyoming farm has always been simple. But after her grandmother's death, Tracey is all her grandfather has. So when Eagle Elite University announces its annual scholarship lottery, Tracey jumps at the opportunity to secure their future and enters. She isn't expecting much-but then she wins. And life as she knows it will never be same . . .

The students at Eagle Elite are unlike any she's ever met . . . and they refuse to make things easy for her. There's Nixon, gorgeous, irresistible, and leader of a group that everyone fears: The Elect. Their rules are simple. 1. Do not touch The Elect. 2. Do not look at The Elect. 3. Do not speak to The Elect. No matter how hard she tries to stay away, The Elect are always around her and it isn't long until she finds out the reason why they keep their friends close and their enemies even closer. She just didn't realize she was the enemy -- until it was too late.

Elite is a powerful romance that keeps the reader on the edge of your seat.  Rachel Van Dyken is a new author to me and I’m so excited I finally found her.

I swear I yelled at this book or rather the characters more than ever before.  Ms. Van Dyken yanked me into the Eagle Elite world, made me feel the myriad of emotions her characters endure.  As I finished Elite I felt as if I had run a marathon in record time.  I was exhausted, and I wanted more.  I was so obsessed I turned around and read the next book Elect immediately!

Trace Rooks is a feisty young woman beginning her college career at an exclusive university.  She’s thrust into this strange world and subjected to some awful things.  One of the wonderful things about this book besides the romance are the many converging plots.  As soon as you think you know what this book is going to be about Ms. Van Dyken throws a curve ball.  Many times, I felt my eyes bulge while thinking Holy Sh*t did that really just happen!

Elite is a new adult romance but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s your standard college romance novel.  Elite deals with many adult scenarios.  It’s easy to forget the characters are so young because of how they handle the cards they are dealt.

Nixon Abandonato is an enigma.  It’s hard to tell what is going on in his head but damn he wears Alpha Male with aplomb.  He’s the leader of the mysterious Elect and a complete ass.  The characters are fascinating.  I hate to say much more because I don’t want to give away the exciting secrets within Elite. However, I can tell you that Trace and Nixon set the pages ablaze with their sensual romance and intense banter in Rachel Van Dyken’s Elite! I am thrilled to Joyfully Recommend it for November!

Paralegal Zara Remington is in over her head and she doesn’t know it: her friend is in trouble, her job is on the line, her casual affair suddenly wants more, oh and someone may be trying to kill her.  Ryker Jones’ past is coming back to haunt him and the people he cares about.  He will do whatever it takes to keep them safe whether they like it or not.

Danger is lurking closer than Ryker could have imagined.  Can he protect those he loves?

Author Rebecca Zanetti introduces her readers to the Blood Brothers series with Deadly Silence.

Ryker and his blood brothers Heath and Denver grew up in foster care.  They were forced into a dire situation and tried to make the best of it.  They thought that was behind them until a twelve-year-old walks into their Private Investigation offices asking for help.

Zanetti weaves a killer world in Deadly Silence.  I am always in awe of Zanetti’s worldbuilding and complex characters.  I was not disappointed with Deadly Silence.

Zara is a modern woman content with her casual affair with Ryker.  Her conflicted feelings when he tells her he wants more are honest and humorous.  She finds herself in a situation where societal norms tell her she should act one way while her heart and body are screaming something else.  I think we’ve all been in that type of situation a time or two.

Ryker is a dominant alpha male character that make your toes curl.  His interactions with Zara are very exciting.  They always made me smile while reading.  The passion in Deadly Silence ranks a fifteen on a scale from one to ten.  I would definitely walk on the wild side with Ryker.

There are many intersecting plot lines in Deadly Silence.  Zanetti has set her readers up with a seriously enthralling story.  The reader never knows what’s coming next or who’s behind it.  I love that kind of suspense element.  Deadly Silence sets things up for Heath’s story Lethal Lies and I can’t wait to hunt down the Copper Killer with him.

Sensational emotions and high intensity action make Deadly Silence a Must Read!
